Mr. A. R. Fancher who has
one of the best farms in Hill
county situated 3 1-2 miles
vest of this place came in the
other day and upon being ques-
tioned as to the much talked of
Nicaragua wheat he gave us
the-following statement o facts
pertaining to its productiveness
and adaptability to this.climate:
"Fourteen years agof I pur-
chased my seed in Parker 'court-'
ty and sowed the .same in the
fall from which I realized thir-.
ty bushels to the acre; the se'e-i
ond year I also sowed in the5
fall; it was froze out and it came-
up very thin but I concluded to"
let it grow which turned 431-2;
bushels to the acre. Sinceihat'
time I have sewed every year
after Christmas and as late as
the 1st of April. The smallest
yield at any year did not fall
short of iS bushels. Takingja.
general'yield I believe the' av-
erage for the 14 years would be
at least 25 bushels to the acre!
It is rust proof but I have
noticed it affected by rust when
growing in the same field
where other varieties of wheat
were growing which had the
rust but the effects was quite
slight I deem it a perfect suc-
cess and a paying crop. Nicar-
agua flour will make griddle
cakes equal- to any buckwheat
and for cakes generally is not
surpassed. It rises equal .to
any other flour in use. I will
have about 75 acres of. this
wheat put in this year." From
the above parties dubious as to
the success of the Nicaragua
wheat can form their own con-
clusions. Hillsboro Mirror.
The Trde Wife. Often-
times I have seen a tall ship
glide by against the tide as if
drawn by some invisible bow
line with a hundred strong arms.
pulling it. -Her saiis-were.:un-filled
her streamers were droop-
in? she had neither side wheel ;
.still she moved on stately in
serene triumph as with her own
life. But I knew that on the
other side of the ship hidden
beneath the great bulk that
swam so majestically there was
a little toilsome steam tug with
a Heart oi fire and arms of iron
that was tugging it bravely on
and I knew if the little steam
tug untwined her arms and left
the ship it would wallow and
roll about and drift hither -and
thither and go ofFwith the in-
fluent tide no man knows
whither. And so I have.known
more than one genius high
decked full freighted idle-sailed
gay pennoned but that for
the bare toiling arms and brave
warm-beating heart of the faith-
ful little wife that nestles close
to him so that no wind or wave
could part them would have
gone down with tie stream and
have been heard of no more.
Oliver Wendell Holmes.
Insects a Orchard. It has
been proposed to destroy in-
sects in the orchards and among
them the codlin 'moth byJthe
following practice: First white-
washing the bodies and limbs
of the trees as high as practica-
ble and second the latter part
of spring and before insects be-
come very active plow furrows
each way between the rows of
trees so as to leave a square
piece of smooth ground under
each tree; then scatter some
straw' lightly under the trees
keeping it away three or four
feet from the stems and many
insects will harbor in it After
- ten or twelve days that the straw
has been thus spread under the
trees some evening taking one
tree at a time set fire to the
straw and insects together. Fol-
low up the practice for two or
three years and few insects will
remain Vlck's Magazine.

her companion with increasing
surprise. "Is it possible that
you have never heard of 'The

hog merchant's crest-fallen child
entered her palatial home that
afternoon she wiped' her" eyes
with a pale blue bandana- and
whimpered: "I knew I would

The natural impoliteness of
children is proverbial. Little-four-year-old
had never been
vis-a-vis with a colored person
until yester3aywhen he as'
tonished the "man aild-Jjroth-er1'
by calling out : "Sayryour

the quick reply. "Well "I'll

little fellow is now anxions to
