Concerning Corporation.
Today tho citizenship of San
Angolo ib culled on to pronaunco
in favor of or against city incor-
poration. Tho Press has tho following
reasons for bolioving that the mu-
nicipality should bo siiBtaiuod:
(1) Wo want that Federal
Building and Uncle Sam isn't go-
ing to put one into an uninoorpo-
ratud town.
(2) Wo want bettor (iro pro-
tpction and wo can't got it nor
maintain it skive through tho me-
dium of thooiygovorninont.
(!) Wo wai'it tho'streots clean-
ed regularly and wo can have
t'lis done only by city authorities.
(-1) Wo 'want Frco Delivery
which won't ovor como to a town
without a city govemmont with
tho ways and moans to supply
and onforce the maintouauco of
good sidewalks.
(5) Wo waut good schools and
through tho tax voted last Fridav
tho city can provido thorn.
((5) Wo want a systom of
drainage and soworage and tlioro
is no way to got itoxcopt through
city corporations.
Thoso aro a fow of the thiugs
San Angolo wantB and ought to
havo. No man supposes that all
these things can come at onco nor
oven within tho first year of tho
city's existence. And it is ovon
doubtful if wo "got all of thorn in
IwQorovon threo yearn. But it
is worth working and oven waif-
ing'ti long tuno for to know that
San -Angolo ib destined through
tho olVortB of hor citivionB to bo u
city.
F.yon Lhoi Almighty all-pow-orfu'l
as Ho is consumed six
days in nutting tho mom iinibh-
'ing touches on this earth of ours.
Can wo suppose that a body of
men can so manage and arrange
tho affairs of San Angolo so that
sho would mako tho transition
from villiagohood to oity hobs al
most instantly? No. Tho ProBB
shall favor and support tho offort
to give time to accomplish somo
of those noodod improvements.
And knowing that thoy can como
only through a oity organization
if this tho coming or any future
administration shall fail to como
up to tho expectations of tho peo-
ple it shall work for a chango of
administration but never an
abolition of tho oity corporation.
This state of unrest is causing
friends to fall out. It is bring
ing roproaoh and ridioulo upon
San Angolo. Let's havo dono
with it. A largo majority at tho
. polls today will sottlo it.
- Lot's havo that majority.
We can't oxpoot everything to
' ' dome at onoo but we can oxpeot
nil hands to put in tho'ir work for
' a groator San Angolo.
Ancnt the Elections.
Tho Press deprecates tho resort
to personal criticism and abuso
which characterized tho speeches
of some of the gentlemen last
Thursday night. Yet it always
comes in closely contested elec
tions whon tlioro aro thoso on
each side who havo boon on oppo-
site sides in a previous contest.
It ought not to occur at any
time yot whon ono side throws
down tho gauntlet tho other sel-
dom fails to tako it up.
Anyhow its all ovor now and
wo ought to Bottle down to tho
arts of poaco. There is that
Federal Building to work for.
This mutter can bo handled at
tho next session of Congress.
Tlioro is free delivery to which)
wo ijro justly enUUcd and which
ought to come by all means.
Thuro is the llowor show of next
lull winch II mrulo wliat nought!
lo bo will draw crowds iron; a
distance- There s tho inah.orof!

product' exhibit next fall -and'
oucht to bo well taken ciirv of. ;
There is tho Orient railway 'which
ought to be given our very best
attention without cease. There
is the base ball situation which
among other things helps' mako
tho town lively during tho sum-
mor months. Wo havo a good
gun club. Wo might got a shoot
and many visitors from abroud
would attend. We neetl cleaner
atreotB. Thoro ought to bo gut-
ters to carry oft the superfluous
water and waste. There ought to
bo a system of scavenger work.
These things all essential to
the realization of "a- greater San
Angolo" can not be hud iu tho
twinkling of an oyo but roust
como by slow dogroo3 and bo per-
manent. Lot's do our best for
San Angolo aijd our ell'ottB wilL
win.
A Greater Opera. House
"Ono who likes the Drama'
writing iu tha last issuo- of 6ho
Press very happily hits tho nail
on tho head in legard to tho opera
house situation. San Angolo ia a
city of 7000 inhabitants a num
ber which ia Htcadily increasing
and which includes a number of
thoatro goers. The present thea-
tre accomodations are tho same
as tho town of Suji Angolo on-
joyod whon thoro was a popula
tion of 000.
Bottor shows could bo booked
if tho presonb house had 11 larger
stage. Botter attractions could
bo had if tho seating capacity
woro diil'oroutly arranged and bet-
ter iiudioi.Jcs could bo had if tho
hoiiBo war miulouiore-coinfQrtablo
If tho Turn Vorom would build
a nowhouso in somo othoc loca
tion or ovon on tho same lot tho
situation would be vastly im-
ptovod. If tho Turn Verein could
not or do'os not care to; buiid'a
better thoatro" some capitalist
would find It a goiVd iiivosttnont.
T thero is no pno man to tackle
the propsition .Homo number if
men could form a stock campiuiv
for tho imiposp.
No mutter uho does it and no
mutter bv what nieans obtained"
a botter opora house would bo a
welcomed improvement.
Air. Ruff's Letter.
Tlioro are somo who criticizo
tho lottor written to tho Press by
Mr. J. A. Ruff of Monardvillo
and published in last week's issue.
If you read it you will romem
bor that our merchants were
oriticizod because thoy fail to af-
ford tho rural resident a correct
idoa of tho worth of their wares
in thoir advertisements. The
Press came in for Ub share of tho
criticism too because of it3 fail-
ure to provido a column of
markot quotations.
Now that this paper s attention
has beon called to this shortcom-
ing it iB noiim to with tho much
appreciated assistanoe of tho
Cottoji Exclmngo and the whole-
sale Iiousob publish each week n
column devoted to thio purposo.
If tho morohants who advertise
in tho Press would quote prices
on thoir gooda no ' mattor
whether thoso goods aro groceries
hardware furriituro 6r what not
it is tho firm belief of this paper
tlmt tho results from such adver-
tising would bo surprisingly satisfactory.
Tho Press straddles no public
issues. If you find fault with it
becatiao of tho stand it takes it
will not find fault with you. It
givoH ovory man crodit foe having
tho courago of bin convictions.
With good schools as a founda-
tion for a greater San Angolo lots
put in our timo working for sotno
of thoso other many pornianent
good things.
