Completed Their Survey
to Abilene.

The engineers on the Anmrillo
Southern railwuy who have been
in the field between here and
Abileno for the oust two months
came in today having complotod
their work from hero to Canyon
by way of Abilene. From four
miles this side of Burkott to Abi-
lene a second survey was made
on practically the samo lines as
before. The survey lias been very
carefully and closely made and
the enginoors will so liovo thoir
reports ready. When asked if
they had further instructions
thoy said they did not but would
await orders hero. Thoy aro ex-
pected to bo called to Chicago
from hero though thoy do not
even know that. They think that
it will probably bo sovoral wooks
bnforo thoy are instructed to run
any more lines when thoy will
probably comploto the wostorn

CITY HOTEL IN ASHES.
Well Known Hostlery Near Snntn Pe
Depot Destroyed by Fire Enrlv
Monday Morning.
The City Hotel was destroyed
by fire between the hours of U and
1 o'clock Monday morning.
The City Hotel was located
near the depot and was owned by
Eckert Brothers. It was being
conducted by Paul Wilder who
camo to thiB city about two years
ago in tho quest of health.
The fire originated in tho ofllce-.
Mr. Wilder boing easily effected
by smoke on account of throat
trouble awoke about 11:110 o'clock
almost choked. He not being
n bio to create a noise -jomnmiii-cated
to his wile the fact that tho
house on firo. She got out of bed
and gave the alarm. By this
time the flames were shooting up
the front stairwav and this moans
of escape was cut off. The only
ones left were by jumping to tho
ground from the gallery on the
west direct from the windows on
the east or bv means of the buck
stairway. A tew of the guests
wont by tho latter route out it
was soon cut off by tho smoko
und flames filling tho hall on tho
second floor. After this sliding
down gallery posts climbing
down ladders and jumping from
tho second story were in order.

and little daughter Madie Graves

building. Mr. Martin is tho only
man heard from who got away
with all of his wouring apparo'.
Tho ladies lost everything except
thoir night clothes and soino bed-
ding which by dianco thoy
thought to wrap thomsoWos in.
Mr. Kinchon sufl'orod boiho
slight burns about the faco and
his hair was badly Bingod. Two
gontlemon Bavod thoir trunks but
tho contents woro only a small
part of thoir belonging. Misses
Oador lost a quantity of now
spring clothes besides thoir wm-
ter wardrobes and fl5 in money
as well. Messrs. Kinchon Wild-
er Heckort and Ryan saved ab-
solutely nothing. iMeBsrs. Bevans
Martin Findley and McMillan
saved but little.
Paul Wilder lost all ho hod in
tho house not a cent of insur-
ance. Eckert Bros are insured as
