The members of the Texas
Proas Association wunt to see San
Angelo. They've been hearing of
this citv and as newspaper duties
are rather confining they may
therefore lie excused for not hav-
ing made this pilgrimage to the
West. The following from last
week's San Angelo Standard tells
the story .
The editor of the Standard is in
recoint of a letter from Will II.
Mayes editor of the Urownwood
ISuflotiii and a member of the
entertainment committee of the
Texas I'ross Association which
convener in annual session at
Urownwood May 1 1 next stat-
ing that it is his belief that the
newspaper men would like to visit
San Angelo on Saturday May 115
and suggesting that we take the
matter up with the pioper
authorities.
We have referred the letter to
Mayor Powell and President
Webb of the Business Club and
the idea of entertaining the jour
nalists of Texas appeared to them
at once hb a most important one.
'I ho Business Club will decide
the matter at its next meeting
which will occur Monday evening
the 20th inflt. By all means let
the decision be favorable. It is
a "golden opportunity!" It is
an important opportunity! And
why?
The best advertisement San
Angelo could possibly invest in
would bo to entertain these men
and women whose duty in life it
is to inform the peoplo tnrougli-
out the world of the happenings
and advantages of the great Lone
.Star state. Seeing tho natural
advantaged of our section J.ho
journalists would "depict" them
often mid thus Sail Angelo and
Texas is a Bubject which when t
told of without any semblance of
color or any attempt at romanc-
ing is of interest to Toxaiis and
"down easterners" alike. Whon
the facts of this great period are
woven into as protty a story with
as fltiu an art as is done in "Tho
Orito" the result iB highly satis-
factory to tho reader. The pub-
lishers ore The Neale Publishing
Co. New York and Washington.
IT'S ALWAYS BAD.
San Angolo is not "destined to
be a great trade center." Such a
state of affairs existB now. Do
you know that no Santa Iu station
in Texas except Oulveston can
bIiow the revenues that uro shown
by the San Angelo station

There is no class of peoplo in
any profession anywhoro that is
inoro appreciative or more eager
to substantiate their apprecia-
tion than are tho newspaper men
and women.
The Press wants to support the
stand taken by its contemporary
and to urge that an invitation bo
extended the niombors of tho
Texas Press Association to visit
this city on the occasion named.
San Angelo can not entertain too

Prosperous San Angelo.
A walk through tho Santa Fo
yards almoBt any day will con-
vince the most pessimistic of the
thoroughly prosperous condition
of San Angolo and adjaoont terri
tory. Iloro ono finds boing un-
loaded car after car of machinery
lumber building material of all
sorts including brick and stone
salt grain foodstuffs as woll as
dry goods groconoB furniture
and many othor things muto but
eloquont testimony as to the por-
manoncy of San Angolo'H pros-
perity. Nor is thiB all. Tako a drivo
about the city and no niattor to
which portion of tho town inclin-i
ation may loud you thoro you
will find at work gang aftor gang
of carponters paintors paper

If thoso things can not bo brought
to assist us in our efforts to build
up San Angolo will tho pooplo
"lay down?" "Woll 1 Bhould

Hint Antl-Pnss Bill.
The hullabaloo raisod about
that awful (?) anti-pasa bill re-
minds ono that mon and oven leg-
islators can do awfully clumsy
"electioneering" at times. All
this fusa raised about a bill whoso
roally sincere frionds in both
branches of tho legislature could
bo counted ou onos fingers! It's
all a big coarse piece of political
clap-trap.
Legislators a plank in whoso
platforms told of the harms of
of free passes and pledged their
utmost endeavors to uproot tho
ovil are congratulating their freo
pass constituents over tho dofoat
of the bill and will doubtless bo
boforo long trying to explain to
the farmers how powerless thoy
were to got anything done.
If a man is a first class hypo-
crite and can't "get olectod to the
legislature it would seem that his
days of usefulness are over or olso
ho has a bettor thing.
If you don't want to bo loft
away behind tho procession you
had bettor got busy with that
sidewalk.
The next big thing which San
Angolo undortakos should bo the
installation of a system of sewer-ago.
Spring is almost a reality the
very reason why that back alloy
Bhould bo thoroughly cleaned.
