The other day the bottom fell out
of the onion market. What is the
cause of it? There are only two
possible causes. First, when the
onion farmer does not have his onions
properly graded, and second when
the speculator is running the onion
business. A week ago those buyers
were paying a good price for our
onions and at the same time they
were not so particular about the
grading, and all at once they would
buy nothing but No. One onions.
But what do they call a No. One
onion ? They want nothing but nice,

Artesia Wells, Texas, May 16.—
One of the finest and most opportune
rains, from a farming viewpoint,
fell over this section late Saturday
afternoon and night and early Sun-
day, that has come our way for many
moons, and it looks as though we had
a real bumper grain crop already
made, and at least a partial cotton
crop, as well. Watermelons are
very fine and beans and peas are
just as good as could be desired,
round and smooth onions, regardless The cow rangea> though deplete> are
ot quality, yes, regardelsss of qual- 1
ity, because if an onion is just the
least bit deformed but of the same
quality as the nice round and smooth
onion, it is rejected. Why is that?
Is not an onion of a tryangular or
a rectangular form but of the same
quality as the nice round and smooth
one just as good as the round and
smooth one ? Does the consumer
care a snap whether the onion he
buys is of a tryangular or round
form as long as it does not interfere
with the quality of same?
The other day we had loaded a car
of onions in Cotulla but no buyer
wanted to bid on it because the on-
ions were not all nice, round and
smooth but were all of the same
quality. Where is the trouble?
It is time for us onion farmers to
organize like the California fruit
growers did.
