PPESIDENT'S PEPOPT
Brigadier General Wilma Vaught planned and organized
The women's memorial that was held in Washington DC on
October 18,1997. She honored me and the WASP when she
called and asked me to represent the WASP and Air Force
in the ribbon cutting ceremony. This was a once in a life time
experience for me.
Kate Cerviling , a friend of mine, was Captain of the all
women crewforthe 141 fly overforthe dedication ceremony.
Bea Thurston and I were asked to join the crew on the
practice fly over on October 17. What a super crew of young
women. I have never felt safer in the air. On October 18,
Dawn Seymour joined the all women crew for a fly over for
the dedication. The weather closed in and Dawn was flying
above the clouds.Kate Cerviling Captain of"AllWomen Crew" Oct. Memorial Fly over.
Bea & I, Oct. 11-Oct. 18.
November was a busy month ...
On November 5, Chino Museum and Airport arranged a
pilot to give me a ride in a P51. The sound of the motor's roar
on take off was a sound I had longed to hear. It was a great
experience for me, but truthfully I would have preferred the
front seat.Brigadier General Vaught was the guest speaker when
the WASP were honored at the George Patten Museum, on
November 8. On Veteran's Day the WASP were presented
The Patriot of the Year Award in Mobile, AL. The WASP were
treated royally, special seating, transportation and escort to
all the functions, riding in the parade, program atthe Museum,
luncheon with the Veterans. This southern hospitality will
long be remembered. We received the key to the City of
Mobile.
On January 17, Barbara London and I were asked to
participate in the Parade of Valor in Newport Harbor. We
were in the company of three Medal of Honor members and
eight Men of Valor.
The Board has voted to have the printing of the Newsletter
done at TWU. Jean McCreery will be the next WASP News
Editor. Ethel Finley has been Editor for many years and has
done a super job. She will be a hard act to follow. Thanks
Ethel, you have been a good friend and I appreciate all the
help and advice you have given me. WASP send in your
articles so we can continue having an interesting Newsletter.
Support your Nominating Committee. Make suggestions
and better still if you think you would like to be a part of the
WASP Board (volunteer). The Committee will appreciate the
help.
It has been an honor for me to represent the WASP this
past year. Thanks for giving me this privilege. Meeting these
wonderful WASP that are still doing so many interesting
things still amazes me. Thanks, Thanks, Thanks!

A recent conversation with Chairman, Lois Durham has
established that plans for the 1998 Omaha Reunion are
completed. By now everyone should have received the
packet of information with Conference sign-up sheets. If you
have not received yours, contact Lois. I'm told that the food
at our hotel is excellent and the rooms on the second floor
may be used by classes wishing to meet and visit at special
times. I'm also told that the Aviation Institute of the University
of Nebraska will be around taking pictures. In case some
classes wish to meet for dinner in other parts of the city, Lois
plans to send a list of desirable restaurants to all Class
Secretaries. If you plan to attend, do get all of your paper
work in as soon as possible.
It seems indeed strange to begin talking about our year
2000 Reunion, yet the ballots for a vote on where that will be
must be mailed out by May 1st. By rights the Reunion should
be held in Region I. New York or Boston would be great, but
the problems are legion. Where do we find anyone willing or
even able to take on such responsibility?.)
