Seminary Exes
Picnic in Ft. Worth
Seminary Hill, Texas.
October 17, 1941.
Dear Harry:
The Hardin-Simmons Club of
Southwestern Baptist Seminary is
having a picnic on Monday, October
20th. We are leaving the Seminary
at 4:30 p.m. to go to one of the city
parks here in Fort Worth. About 25
exes are expecting to attend.
We would like to be honor q with
your presence at that time. T kn6w
it will mean so much to our club and
to the interest of our dear school. We
shall be looking forward to seeing you
at that time.
Yours truly,
MILFORD HOWELL, '40,
President.
P. S.-Plenty eats.
(Editor's Note: I appreciated the
contents of the card, all right; but
brother, that postscript got me. You
couldn't have kept me away!).
Box 1296,
Seminary Hill, Texas.
October 21, 1941.
Dear Harry:
May I again thank you for coming
and bringing.all the ,other folks witl
you. You can't know just how much
good it did me, personally, to see
each of you. Maybe you will feel
good about it when I tell you that we
got enough "fire" to carry back to
those who did not get there. We
shall have a short meeting some day
at noon soon and report on the things
that you told us.
The list of Hardin-Simmons exes
which we got after a careful check
is as follows: Charles McLaughlin '41,
C. H. Foley, Jr., '40, Dexter Riddle
'41,. Pedro Hernandez '41, Clyde Jack-
son '38, Milford Howell '41, Phillip
Little '23, D. C. Ham '38, Wade East
'37, Frances Osborne '40, Clarice Ham-
brick '41, Helen Turnidge '39, Fern-
etta Foley '40, Byron Fletcher '38, W.
B. Teel '33, Ernest Massey '29, Earl
Slaughter '30, and wife, Fred Swank
'32, and Dr. S. A. Newman, our spon-

gards to all there.
Sincerely yours,

tertaining groups of the university to
the conventionists. This show, weath-
er permitting, will be held in Parra-
more stadium.
All in all, we are trying to do every-
thing in our power to show the Bap-
tists of Texas and the Southwest that
there is really A great university in
the West that stands four-square with
their principles and beliefs.News In Brief
W. J. Largent, H-SU trustee of
Merkel, was recently honored in that
city by his church for having com-
pleted fifteen years continuous ser-
vice as Sunday School superintendent.
A daughter, Frances '39, now Mrs.
Royce Eiland '39 of Childress, and a
son Billy '44, now in H-SU, have been
sent to H-SU by Mr. Largent.
Some wolves who were suffering
after we lost two games in a row
should look at the Baylor string of
bad breaks, and also at the record
made by Daniel Baker College-twen-
ty straight losses without a single win
to mar their record.
The Cowgirl Band presented the
first program in the newly repaired
auditorium. You will hear more of
this all-girl group. Director Louise
Bolton '34 is doing a fine piece of
work.
If you would like our scores on the
past few games, here they are: H-SU
44, Texas Mines 14; H-SU 20, West
Texas State 13; and H-SU 7, San
Jose State 7.
Texas Tech let Miami U. slip up
on them, 6-0, and ruin what looked
like a perfect season. The Cowboys
have a real fight on their hands in
two weeks.
A special train will leave View for
Lubbock taking students and all who
wish to go for $2.40 round trip. Make
your plans to see this game. It will
be the classic of West Texas! The
Cowboys will need your full support!,
The train will return the same day,
Nov. 20th.
Most interesting studes on the cam-
pus this year are a young ministerial
student from Ireland, whose name is
lielvin Chatfield, and Henry Wiens,
a Russian born Communist, who has
turned to Christ and is preparing for
the ministry. Both of these young
fellows have a wonderful story to tell.
. We might add that there is an Ital-
ian on our campus who has been a
steady giver to Greek relief. His
name is Sam Bonetati, another min-
isterial student. Sam is from West
Virginia and has played pro football.
He gave up a job paying big money
to prepare for the ministry.
"Thunder Rock" was presented by
the Players Club in a truly profes-
sional fashion this week. Miss Kath-
ryn Boyd proves her proficiency in the
field of directing with each play she
produces.
Jack Simmons '31, ex-bandman and
Abilene laundryman, is in charge of
the drive for $116,000 in Abilene to-
ward the Memorial Fund. He is a dil-
igent worker and one-of the most pop-
ular civic workers in West Texas. We
say he will get the job done right.
Latest reports are to the effect that
we have 880 students enrolled in H,-SU. This figure includes extension,
but it does not include correspondence
work. Our' total for the year\will beAs Simple As

We are doing our very best to edit
a little periodical each month that you
can read in a very few minutes. We
are trying to compile as much in-
teresting news as possible in a limit-
ed space. The work done by your edi-
tors is entirely without pay. We feel,
therefore, that we can justly urge you
each month to pay your dollar per
year Ex-Student's Association dues.
Every cent of your dollar goes toward
paying for the printing ana mailing
of the Bulletin. If you cannot afford
to pay your dues, we do not intend to
discontinue your paper, but if you
will you can certainly add a "punch"
to the Ex-Association by sending us
your dues.
Since the last issue of the Bulletin,
the following ex-students have paid
their dues: Bertha Gartner '31, Ama-
rillo, Texas; Mrs. R. J. Kenny (Peggy
Norvell '18), San Angelo; Oran Rich-
ardson '40, North Hollywood, Califor-
nia; Mrs. H. W. Finley (Laura L.
