LETTERS YOU WILL LIKE
Norfolk, Virginia
I have throughly enjoyed every Bulletin
of the ex-student Association. It helps so
much in keeping in touch with the ex-stu-
dents. To receive a Bulletin is as good as
receiving a letter from home. I have been
a SPAR five months now, and really like
my work. Hester V. Smith, Y 3-C. Mont-
icello Hotel, Norfolk, Va.
Monahans, Texas
We have not been receiving the Bulletin
since we have been moving around so much
since the war began. My husband, Lt. Ber-
vin Harper, who went to H-SU. in '36-'37
is stationed at the Pyote Air Base at the
present. We are living in Monahans and
have a two month old daughter, Jan. Fran-
ces Payton Harper '41.
San Antonio, Texas
Well this is one letter I hate to write. I
explain when I say I had rather be there
myself and see everyone personally. The
army won't let me, so the next best thing
is to get a copy of the Brand or Bulletin.
There certainly are a lot of H-SU boys
here and across the road in Pre-Flight
School. I go across next week then it is
still hine weeks before we begin flight
training. I really will appreciate your help-
ing the "ole H-SU spirit" reach us here in

We have been enjoying the Bulletin very
much and hope to continue keeping in coil-
tact with those we went to school with.

No doubt you will be surprised to hear
'from me at this time, but I have just re-
ceived and read the Ex- Student's Bulletin
and feel that I want to write to some one
from the old institution and not knowing
anyone more worthy, I desided to drop you
a few lines. I surely was glad to receive the
Bulletin and to learn of the so widely sep.-
arated destinations of so many of my oldBoise, Idaho Matador, Texas
Well, how is the old Alma Mater getting I have been planning for some time to
long ? I sure would like to come back to write you that Claude was called into ser-
he place and see everyone,. but guess it is vice August 9th. 1942. He is with the Naval
n impossibility as I am a pretty far piece Construction Battalion in the Aleutian Is-rom Texas. I am in a combat group here
n Boise, and am dropping bombs now in-
tead of blowing horns. There has been
e uite a bit happening to me since the last
time that I was in Abilene or Texas as far
as that is concerned. I am a bombardier
nd got my commission in July. Have had
two posts- Salt Lake City, Utah, and for
he past two months have been an instruc-
tor of combat bombing here in Gowen,
Field, Idaho. I like the Work a great deal
and will probably be going to foreign duty
in two of three months at the most. I ex-
pect to be over before Christmas. We fly
B-24's here and they are wonderful ships.
I guess most of the fellows that I know
there are now gone in some branch of the
service. I ran into Kilgore the last few days
he is a navigator. I guess they are scatter-
ed over a big part of the globe by now. Lt.
Jack Burton '42, 6th B. S. Gowen Field.
Crowley, La.
I was pleased to receive the Bulletin last
week, and was surprised that you had al-
ready been notified of our change of ad-
dress. Last April, I was made Landman in
South Louisiana; and, although we won't
like Louisiana as well as we do Texas, we
are enjoying our stay in the middle of the
great rice belt. We have a neighbor anyone
would like to have. Yesterday he brought us
five fryers as a present. If Texas hospitality
can beat that, I would like for you to try it
on me. I rarely ever see any Exes, but I
did run into Johnny Hensley in Houston re-
cently. I hope that it will be possible for
the class of '34 to show up in Abilene about
a year' from now. I am going to put forth
my best effort to come, regardless of the
distance. I am enclosing my check for dues
and my pledge on the Sandefer Memorial.
The Bulletin is good-keep it up! Come
down to see us. Grayson Ray '34, 820 East
Third Street.irlenas. It surely makes one ieel swell when
he is so far away from the old school to Charlottesville, Va.
get word that some of the fellows with The enclosed check for $6.00 includes
whom he went to school have found their $1.00 for dues and $5..00 for the project to
marks. Regardless of the hardships to place etchings of national subjects in the
which we are subjected, I am surely glad class rooms. I am of the class of 1918,
that I am in the service and I can truthfully which seems like a long time ago. If you
say that I enjoy it a lot. I think that I am happen to have antiquarian ,tendencies, you
learning a lesson here that I never learned may know that I was a member of. the state
before. Since I last wondered around on the basketball championship team of that year.

to apply on the paper as I feel sure he en-
oys every issue of it. Mrs. Claude L Wil-

When we got that good "ole" paper to-
lay, Bill said, "Write Harry a check for all
he dues we should have sent and didn't."
seems that your work should mean even
nore to us exes because of the changes we
.11 make so suddenly and war, etc. Bill is
ead of the orthopedic (bone to you) ward
n the army station hospital here. We don't
ike the foggy city much. Give me Texas.
)n the way over we ran into Vernon Pettis
and his wife (June Brahaney) in Fresno.
Vernon is a flying cadet. Me? I'm just a
housewife again, and like it. Thanks for
keeping the paper coming all this time.

I've planned to write you for some time
letting you know my address etc. I'm in the
Coast Guard. It is a wonderful organization
and I wouldn't take anything for the time
that I have spent in it. My rate is now Cox-
swain, instead of Seaman, 2nd Class. I
went thru boot camp at Algiers, La., as
did practically every one else from Texas.
While there I bunked in the same row with
Floyd Burroughs. You remember him? We
met the day that we were sworn in at Ft.
;Worth. I wonder if you could give me the
low-down on some old 39'ers ? For example:
-)ale Rhoades, Bob Murdock, and Ralph
)ay. I would like to hear from those fellows
very much. I think Dave Martindale is in
Ft. Sheridan, Ill. I used to hear from him
but we got seperated. Haven't much time
now, so will close by telling you that I
eally enjoy theyBulletin-keep it coming!

through it. My husband is now in North
Africa with a Tank Destroyer Bn. I hbpe
to be employed soon at Consolidated to do
ny bit. I was sorry to hear that Dr. White
iad resigned but I am sure someone we'll
all like will accept the position. Thank you
or past favors. Mrs. Jack D. Green '(Kay
