Keeping Up With The Exes
D. O. Huddleston has received the Air
Medal decoration and promotion to staff
sergeant recently at an Eight AAF bomber
command station in England. D. O. is a
gunner on a Flying Fortress and has com-
pleted several missions over Germany and
occupied countries of Europe.
Born: to Pvt. and Mrs. Fred Vetterlein a
son, named Fred Lynn, on Feb. 21 in San
Angelo. Mrs. Vetterlain, the former Bitsy
Lynn, is living in Ballinger while her hus-
band is overseas.
Pfc. Frank Rhodes Elliott has been in
Abilene visiting with his parents. He is
stationed at Camp Claiborne, La., where he
is in training in the field artillery with the
84th division.
Leaving H-SU recently for the Navy was
Tommye Webb, freshman. He's to be in the
Navy V-12 program.
Thurman Morrison, former H-SU student
and piano instructor, was seen in a short
feature. "Unusual Occupations", at the
Paramount theatre in Abilene. Thurman is
now an instructor at Avenger Field, Sweet-
,water. The picture told of the training of
women pilots and it showed him in his class
room teaching.
Calvin McIntosh, freshman at H-SU, has
gone to Camp Wolters, Mineral Mells, Tex-
as, where he will be inducted into the ser-
vice. He will be in the Air Corp.
Roy Skaggs, district clerk of Taylor
County, has announced his candidacy for
re-election subject to the action of the
Democratic primaries in July. Roy is the
past president of our Alumni Association
and, to thise of us who can, let's give him
our support in this election.
Camp Wilson has been in Abilene "beat-
ing the bushes" for 4-F's and army dis-
charges who can play football. Camp is
first string fullback on the Tulsa team that
went through l]st season undefeated and
tied once before taking a defeat at the
hands of Georgia Tech in the Sugar Bowl
game at New Orleans. Wilson was dis-
charged last fall from the Army because
of an injury in his left foot.
Born: to Mr. and Mrs. Doyle and Stella
Lou Middlebrooks a girl, named Janice
Sue, on Feb. 15. Doyle is a ministerial
student in H-SU.
Mrs. W. M. Moore (Florence Hughes)
and her small son were recent visitors at
the ex-student office. Florence is living in
Roy, N. M.
La Dola Harper is now an interior dec-
orator at B. Altman's in New York City.Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Yeargan (Ruth Todd)
former students, have returned to Oakland,
Calif., after a recent visit here. Lynn has
been in government work at Oakland for
the past year.
Clyde (Bulldog) Turner has recently been
classed 1A by the Scurry County draft
board in Snyder. He has not been ordered
to report as yet. This last season Bulldog
was ace center on the Chicago Bear team.
Floyd Burroughs was recently home on
leave from the Dominican Republic. He is
being transferred to New London, Conn.,
where he will attend officers' training
school. Floyd, who is in the coast guard,
was on convoy duty in the Dominican Re-
public about six months. He has been in the
service about 16 months.
Reporting the 28th of Feb., Lavon Bost,
A. S., V-12, USNR will be' stationed at the
University of Kansas, Lawrence Kansas.
Lt. Hall S. Bond
Lt. Hall S. Bond was recently graduated
from Moore Field, Mission, Texas. He re-
ceived his wings and commission as a 2nd
lieutenant in the AAF. He was in Abilene
visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. D.
Bond, before returning to Moore Field.
Davis Scarborough has been commission-
ed lieutenant, junior grade, in the United
States Naval reserve, and is awaiting call
to active duty.
Douglas Crow, a recent visitor on the
forty acres, reported to chaplain's school
on Feb. 5 at Harvard. His twin brother,
David, is in the medical detachment at
Sheppard Field, Wichita Falls, Texas.Mrs. Vernon Pettis (June Brahaney) hat
returned to her home in Roswell, N. M.,
after a visit here in Abilene. Lt. Pettis is
stationed at the Roswell Flying School.
..Born: to Harold and Elsie Moore a boy
on Feb. 10. Harold and Elsie also have a
little girl. They live in Laredo where Har-
old is Boy Scout Director for the Laredo
Area.

Virginia East and Derwood Nollner on
Feb. 13 in Tulia. Both were graduated from
H-SU in June '43. Virginia has been teach-
ing school at Hereford and Derwood has
been employed as a chemist in Vancouver,
Washington.
Opal Narrell and Cpl. G. E. Tiner of
Camp Barkeley on Feb. 13. Opal graduated
from Loraine High School and attended
H-SU. The couple will live in Abilene.
Beatrice Stephenson, student in Hardin-
imons, and Joe Merle Pearson, who has

Martha Jane Austin and Lt. G. B. Hugh-
ston of the 11th Armared Division at Camp
Cooke, Calif. Martha was a flag-bearer for
H-SU and rode one of the six white horses.
The couple will live in San Bernadino, Cal.
Frances Strickland and the Rev. L. V.
Ratliff,, Jr., both former students of H-SU.
Ratliff left recently for service in the Army
at Ft. Sill, Okla. He is now stationed at
Camp Barkeley.
Dorothy Mead and Guy Lee, Jr., former
students of Hardin-Simmons. The Couple
are living in Ft. Worth where Lee is an em-
ployee of Consolidated Aircraft Corp.
