entries was done on Novem-

completed on the 21st.
A total of SO samples were
entered in this year's show.
This was a slight decrease
over past years, but is
understandable due to the
extremely dry growing sea-

year.

Fund Drive
Bogun Hero
The fund drive for the
rebuilding of the Eagle Track
Field was officially opened
this week, according to an
announcement by Glynn Col-
lier. spoksman for the com-
mittee to raise the money.
The entire project is quite
an ambitious undertaking,
involving the curbing with
concrete, putting cinders on
the track, and lighting the
field. The rennovation should
be completed by March of
next year, the approximate
time track season begins
here.
About SIO.OOO is needed
for the project, and the
contributions are under the
sponsorship of the Goidth-
waite Athletic Booster Chib
and the Goidthwaite Lions
Club. Other organizations
have voiced support for the
project also.
Track and Field benefits
most all the young people of
Goidthwaite, as almost all
the students, at one time or
another, participate in the
organized track program of
the schools, either in Inter-
scholastic League competi-
tion. or through the physical
education program.
Girls as well as boys, use
these facilities.

PICKIN' AND f
United States Senator from
Texas, John Tower, visited
Goidthwaite for the first time
Tuesday morning, and held
an old fashioned “town hall”
type meeting at the Senior
Citizens Center. He answer-
ed questions from the crowd
of interested persons who
braved the cold and rainy
weather to meet and talk to
the Republican Senator from
Wichita Falls.
The stop in Goidthwaite is
part of a tour of cities
throughout the central part
of Texas, giving the Senator
an opportunity to hear some
of the comments of the
citizens of the Lotte Star
State. The Senator was in-
troduced by County Judge
James Ledbetter.

World hunger rears its
ugly head constantly. It
seems too big to do much
about. However, the youth of
First Baptist and First United
Methodist Churches have
decided to do something.
They are sponsoring a
program called "Our Christ-
mas Gift to the World" on
Sunday afternoon. December
4, 1977 to raise some money
to help CROP (Christian
Rural Overseas Program) dig
some wells and plant some
seeds to help combat World
Hunger. .
The program kicks off at
2:00 p.m. at the Tennis
Courts of the Methodist
Church. Goidthwaite. when
the youth will begin five
events—all designed to re-
cruit sponsors for gifts to
fight World Hunger.
The five events are: A
Walk O Thon (10 miles), a
Bike-O-Thon (10 miles), a
Jog-O-Thon (9 miles), a
Bounce-O-Tbon (20 blocks),
and a Rock-OThon (2%
hours). The distances and
sponsor simply contributes
for the number of miles
traveled or minutes rocked at
a set amount per mile, or IS
minute segment. _______
At the end of the route,
participants will be treated to
sandwiches, cookies, and
soft drinks at the tennis
courts at First United Meth-
odist Church.
Each participant recruits
sponsors, “runs the race”,
collects the contribution, and
reports in at CROP Head-
quarters.
