Schoenrock, 82, of Levelland will
be at 2 p.m .Thursday at First
United Methodist Church in
Levelland with the Rev. James
Schoenrock, pastor of Missionary
Baptist Church of Mesquite
officiating. The Rev. Jesse Hodge,
pastor of First United Methodist
Church, will assist.
Burial will be in Levelland
Cemetery under the direction of
Geo. C. Price Funeral Directors.
He died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000
at Covenant Hospital in Levelland.
He was bom Sept. 25, 1917 in
Bosque County, Texas, and had
lived in Hockley County since
1934, when he moved here with his
parents and four brothers. He
married Elva Spitler of Levelland
on Jan. 5, 1946 in Plainview and
they farmed near Levelland until
retiring in 1982.
He had been a member of First
United Methodist Church since
1934, serving on the Board of
Stewards, teaching Sunday School
classes, and remaining an active
member of the Methodist Men. He
was a youth sponsor for several
years.
During World War IT, from
1941 through 1945, Schoenrock
served with the 1st Armored
Divisions’s decorated 6th Armored
Infantry Regiment, serving in the
campaigns in North Africa and
Italy, including the battle at Anzio
and the subsequent liberation of
Rome. In Levelland, he was a
charter member and later,
Commander of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars, Post 4506.
Schoenrock served as the long-
time President of the Levelland
Federal Land Bank Board, a
director of the Hockley County Co-
op Gin Board, and a committeeman
for the Agricultural Stabilization
and Conservation Service (ASCS).
More recently, he served as a
board member of the Hockley
County Senior Citizens Center,
where he also delivered Meals-On-
Wheels to seniors until he became
too ill. He participated in the YES
program of the Hockley County
Extension office, working with area
youth to bridge the gap between
young and old.
Schoenrock was a life-long
Democrat, serving for many years
as an election judge and
Democratic.Precinct Chairman.
Survivors include his wife; Elva
Schoenrock; a daughter, Carol Jean
of Lubbock; three sons: Larry
Schoenrock of McKinney, Bobby
Schoenrock of Lubbock, and Terry
Paul Schoenrock of the home; three
daughters-in-laW; three
grandchildren: Kevin Schoenrock
of Indianapolis, Indiana, and
Trenton Schoenrock and Kali
Schoenrock of Lubbock; a great-
granddaughter, Larissa Searce of
Indianapolis, Indiana; and two step-
grandsons.
The family asks that in lieu of
flowers, donations be made to the
Hockley County Senior Center at
1202 Houston, Levelland, Texas
79336.

South Plains API chapter
presenting scholarship cash
Representatives of the South
Plains chapter of the American
Petroleum Institute will present a
scholarship check for $7,000
Thursday (March 2) to South
Plains College officials during an
annual scholarship luncheon.
The funds will assist 16 SPC
students majoring in pre-
engineering, computer and
technical fields.
The noon luncheon will be in
the Founders Room of the Student
Center.
Guests will include Richard
McCormick with North Basin
Coating, and Charles Miller,
retired from Amoco, API officers
and directors; Mrs. Verna
Musslewhite and Richard Ellis,
with Musslewhite Trucking, and
Mr. and Mrs. Coleman Williams.
Williams was a founder of the
South Plains API chapter.
The, Paul Musslewhite
Memorial Scholarship will also be
presented in honor of the longtime
Levelland businessman and API
member who died in 1993.
“We applaud the generosity
of the API chapter. They have
helped more than 700 students
attain a college education since the
program was established at SPC in
1970,” said Steve Bryant, director
of development.

She died Tuesday, Feb. 29,
2000 in Covenant Medical Center
in Lubbock.
She was bom March 18, 1955 in
Ralls. She married Bob Gilbert on
Dec. 16, 1978 in Ralls.
She was a 1974 graduate of
Ralls High School and then
attended South Plains College. She
was currently employed by Grinnell
Manufacturing in Lubbock. She
and her husband owned Bob’s Car
Care Service Center in Levelland.
She was raised in Ralls, but she and
her family moved to Lubbock nine
years ago from Slaton.
'She is survived by her husband.

A three-day music-packed
celebration is scheduled Thursday,
Friday and Saturday (March 2-4)
as South Plains College
commemorates the 25th
anniversary of its innovative
country music program.
Three special concerts and
presentations are planned —
Thursday Nite Live, a live
televised performance at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday (March 2), “A Tribute to
a Musical Pioneer” at 7:30 p.m.
Friday (March 3) and the 25th
anniversary reunion concert at 7:30
p.m. Saturday, featuring a
performance by Heath Wright of
Ricochet and many other former
students. TNL will also feature
guest Ingrid Kaiter and her band.
All performances will be in the
Tom T. Hall Studio in the Creative
Arts Building. There is no
admission charge.
The musical tribute will
honor Nathan Tubb, former
academic vice president who
helped establish SPC's country
music program in 1975. Since
then, the program has evolved into
all aspects of commercial music
education under the umbrella of
the Creative Arts Department.
Heath Wright, a 1993 SPC
graduate who later became a
success in Nashville with the band
Ricochet, will be part of the tribute
to Nathan Tubb on Friday and will
also be present for the unveiling of
a plaque and dedication of a
rehearsal center in his name at 2:30
p.m. Saturday.
Saturday’s events include
performances from 10 a.m.-5:30
p.m. of country, bluegrass, rock,
jazz and other styles by students in
current ensembles. The schedule
includes performances at 10-10:45
a.m. Alan Mund§ and bluegrass
ensembles; 11-11:45 a.m., Mike
Carraway and country ensembles;
noon-12:45 p.m.. Rusty Hudelson
and Country Jukebox ensemble;

A memorial service was held at
5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 28, at The
Brewer, Lee and Larkin Mortuary
in Farmington. She laid in state at
Geo. C. Price Mortuary on Wednes-
day, Mar. 1, from 1-3 p.m.
She died on Saturday, Feb. 26,
2000.
She was born in Lonesome
Dove, TX, on Oct. 24, 1903. She
attended school in Parks, TX. She
married her high school sweetheart,
William Everett (Ike) Erwin. He
preceded her in death in 1983. They
were married for 58 years.
She moved to Farmington
seven years ago. She was a home-
maker and did handiwork. She won
two Best of Show ribbons at the
county fair for her handiwork.
