200 Meet Candidates
About 200 students were on
hand to “Meet the Candidates”
Thursday evening. Student As-
sociation President, Fred Biery,
opened with announcements, in-
cluding one concerning cheer-
leader elections. According to
a resolution passed (which chan-
ges the By-Laws), election of
cheerleaders will be held Thurs-
day, April 30, immediately af-
ter cheerleader tryouts during
the Convo hour. This means
that only those who attend try-
outs may vote for the cheerlead-
ers. Biery then introduced each
candidate for office, giving them
an opportunity to present them-
selves.
S. A. President candidate Du-
ane Semmler was first on the
list. Semmler noted that many
students are apathetic on belong-,
ing to various interest groups
that are concerned with the goal
of their group or groups. This
leads to division, he said, call-
ing for unity of the student body.
Semmler said unity can be at-
tained by encouraging student in-
volvement, and, he said, “it
should start with student govern-
ment.” Semmler feels that S.A.
President must represent all stu-
dents, and that he is in the best
position to do just that. These
are some of his proposals: 1)
Formation of a general council
of all organization presidents.
2) Revision and expansion of the
court and judicial system (pro-
viding means of explaining the
system to students.)
3) Establish a Hall of Fame
for noted TLC graduates. 4) Stu-
dent rights. 5) Extension of li-
brary hours. 6) Have a Senate
and Committee newsletter to all
students.
Kerry Beauchaine, also a can-
didate for president pointed out
his concern for TLC due to his
rapid assimilation into the cam-
pus community and his past ex-
perience as student body presi-
dent at Waldorf. His concern
lies in five main areas: 1)
Student involvement, (apathy,
factions pulling in opposite direc-
tions) Beauchaine called for a
council of organizations with the
purpose of unity. (“United, he
said, students have a lot of pow-
er.”)
2) Dorm Life. Open dorms
should be continued, but re-e-
valuated; quiet hours should be
extended.
3) Social Life. Student govern-
ment should work more closely
with the ASC Chairman.
4) Religious Life. Stress on
this aspect should be placed by
Student Government and students.
5) Student Government. A
chain of communication with stu-
dents should be developed by
posting reports on Senate meet-
ings in the dorms and the stu-
dent newspaper. Also, Beau-
chaine would like to see more
exchanges of students, including
student presidents from other
colleges.
The first candidate introduced
for Vice-President was Betsy
Brown. “Student government
officers are the link between stu-
dents and administration,” said
Betsy. Citing her past exper-
iences in parliamentary pro-
cedure and on TLC’s student Sen-
ate, Besty voiced her proposals:
1) Plan more student As-
sociation Day Programs of in-
terest to students.
2) Draft a Student Bill of
Rights.
3) Have Traditional Spring
activities, such as May Day, etc.
4) Establish a TLC Hall of
Fame.
5) More cultural exchanges
(ex: share expenses for cultur-
al activities with nearby colleges;
exchange senators among colleg-
es.
All in all, Betsy says she will
work to “bring greater unity and
pride gmong students.”
Fernando Yarrito was intro-
duced by Joan Perry, who gave
his qualifications, including par-
ticipation in choir and the spring
production of “Fantasticks” plus
his service as Young Republican
coordinator at Temple Junior
College.
Yarrito»s main idea is “com-
munity through communica-
tion.” He calls for:
1) Development of a Student
“Bill of Rights and Responsi-
bilities.”
2) Strengtheing of communi-
cation among the president, vice
president and students as a whole. I
3) Better communication with- *
in the community of Seguin.
4) Better communication with-
in the system of politics.
5) Formation of a council to
establish a minorities cultural
center (using SA day programs.)
The first candidate presented
for Student Center Activities
Council Chairman was Gary
Crenwelge, who pointed out that
next year we will be working with
a budget that is almost double
that of this year, plus we will
have a part time student center
director. “This should equal
the best social program TLC has
ever had,” said Crenwelge. As
qualifications, Crenwelge pointed
out that he had been involved in
a church related coffeehouse in
Odessa, which gave him exper-
ience in booking bands, etc.
Crenwelge cited a good commun-
ications system as a necessity
for his program. He advocates
having a suggestion box and ques-

Gordo-' Kuenemann
“Fresh Cookies”, a party as-
sortment of fables, vaudevilles
and plays, will be presented by‘
Norman and Sandra Dietz Wed-
nesday, April 29, in Wuppermen
Little Theater.
This is the second appearance
of the couple who are making their
eighth tour of the nation playing
mostly on college and univer-
sity campuses and in churches.
The TLC program, scheduled
for 10 a.m. is being presented
to the public as part of the
Cultural Activities program.
Norman and Sandra Dietz spend
a major portion of each year
touring coast to coast playing
performances of Norman’s uni-
que material throughout the Un-

ces replace old ones more or
less at random as Norman fin-
ishes writing them.
At home in New York City in
January, 1968 they opened Thea-
tre-at-Noon, a luncheon thea-

in the midtown office district;
and, in February, 1969, they re-
turned for a five-month stay with
their own series THE NOON
Show.
Their most recent television
appearance was chi the Dave G_
roway show in Boston.
A collection of six Norman
plays, titled FABLES AND VAU-
DEVILLES AND PLAYS, was
published by John Knox in 1968.
Autographed copies will be avail-
able following the performance.
Omega Gamma
Jubilee
All you institutional people out
there are really gonna get a
break tonight and tomorrow night.
The Omega-Gamma Jubilee’ll
teach you all you need to know
about wearing your stripes with
pride while you’re behind the
walls. Every subject is covered
thoroughly and then some un-
covered ones are too, from sex
ist to self-defense for the drunk-
en driver. You’ll see that what
really makes men free is a good
fast jail-break, and the how-to
for that is demonstrated too.
Nowhere in all of Seguin will you
get in, like this, without also
making a record for yourself.
The lament is “Bars and Stripes,
Forever,” but the joy breaks
out when the warden declares
open-cell policy, and the in-
mates take out. You’ll never
get inside information like this
again, so spend your 50£
wisely, and join the chain gang
at WLT tonight and tomorrow
night. The curtains rise and
the chains fall at7:30bothnights.
Coach Keller Resigns
Kay Woytek
Ann Gardner
Carlton “Buzzy” Keller, base-
ball coach and athletic director
at Texas Lutheran College, has
submitted his resignation ef-
fective at the end of the school
year.
Active in local and national
semi-pros baseball circles, the
youthful coach managed the Lib-
eral, Kansas Beejays to the Na-
tional Baseball Congress Na-
tional Championship in 1968 and
runner-up in 1969. He has also
been a member of the American
Association of College Baseball
Coaches and served on various
committees.
Under Coach Keller’s leader-
ship the TLC baseball team has
played games with many top col-
legiate teams in the Southwest,
Big Ten and Big Eight Conver-
ences. In Big State Conference
play the TLC Bulldogs have also
won the conference crown or
been contenders on several occa
sions during the past decade.
Coach Keller graduated from
TLC in 1955 and joined the coach-
ing staff in 1959. He was made
athletic director in 1965 and also
served as an assitant football
coach.
Dr. Joe K. Menn, college pre-
sident, said that “Coach Keller
has made very valuable contri-
butions to Texas Lutheran Col-
lege. There are few persons on
our staff whom we will miss
more than Coach Keller.”
A search for Coach Keller’s
successor will begin immedi-
ately. President Menn indicated
that every effort will be made
to find a coach who will main-
tain the excellent baseball pro-
gram that has been developed
under Coach Keller’s leader-
ship.
