Sports Editorial:
Go Get'em
by Dave Newman
Even though the Southwestern Pirates tried to prevent
the completion of last Saturday night's game it proved
to be of no avail.
I guess everyone in the stands had the same idea
as Carolyn and myself, just before the bottom of the
fourth. “If only we could get two quick runs, and then
have it rain like hell; then we (TLC) could continue
our battle for the BSC championship." Everything
in our thoughts sort of came true except we didn't
score two runs—-We scored three big runs on our way
to a well-deserved victory.
I had no sympathy for Southwestern —not even their
who just sat behind home in complete dispair for a
minute or two during the initial cloud burst which led
to the calling of the game. I personally can't tolerate
the tactics attempted by Southwestern. You couldn't
imagine how jubilant I was to see those tactics back-
fire.
It was a tremendous game with plenty of enthusiasm
and desire put forth by the entire squad. The entire
feelings and emotions could all be summed up with the
picture created as Doug Will slid into home exhausted
exuberant, — and out. But only after he had hit a tre-*
mendous triple scoring our necessary three runs.
This enthusiasm and desire must be kept up and
increase if TLC is going to win the BSC championship.
And a major factor is the good attendance at the games.
The home team cheering and yelling is so important
in maintaining the enthusiasm needed by the players at
all times. It is our duty to make sure the stands are
full for the remainder of the season; and especially
May 2 when we host St. Mary's.
Remember guys we're behind you 100%—so keep up
the good work!

The Texas Lutheran College
Bulldogs continue on their win-
ning way in conference play. In
last Saturday’s curtailed game
TLC defeated Southwestern 3-1
in a dramatic first. On Monday
the Bulldogs were crushed 8-1
by the Houston Cougars but re-
bounded with a decisive win ov-
er SWTSU 6-4. The Bulldogs are
now 5-1 in conference play and
11-12 over all.
All the runs in the TLC-South-
western game were scored in the
fourth inning. Larry Haines
reached first on an error by Bar-
rera and went to third on Hol-
ly’s single to right. Mutski
singled to right scoring Haines.
Terry Kyle led off the bottom
of the fourth with a walk. Bei-
diger reached first on a field-
er’s choice but Kyle was safe
on the attempted force out at
second. Mueller then bunted
safely to load the bases. The
bases were cleared by Doug
Will’s triple to deep right cen-
ter but Will was thrown out
trying to score on a throwing
error at third. Barrera lined
to second to end the Bulldog ral-
ly.
After Will’s triple South-
western tried to stall the game
in hope of it being called on ac-
count of rain. But it back-
fired — it kept raining but not
hard enough to call the game.
As soon as the top half of the
fifth was completed with the Dogs
leading 3-1 the rain came down
in torents. The game was called
not as imcomplete but as a vic-
tory for TLC.
Don Reichenbach was the win-
ner and L. Simpson was the los-

In Mondays game at Houston
the Bulldogs were clubbed 8-1.
The Cougars scored a single run
in the first by R. Schwartz hit-
ting a double and then socring
on a sacrifice fly by Eddie Hen-
derson.
In the second innnng the ‘Dogs
were tagged for four Houston
runs. Ron Clarke walked and
then three consecutive singles
before Steve Spats hit a double.
Eddie Henderson then singled
knocking in the fourth and last
run of the Houston rally. Hous-
ton completed their scoring with
single runs in 4th, 7th and 8th
innings.
TLC scored its lone run in the
top of the third inning. Wells
and Smith singled and Wells then
scored on a fielder’s choice hit
by Reichenbach.
Steve Berghair was the winning
pitcher for Houston. The loser

St. Mary’s
The TLC Bulldogs kept their
unbeaten streak alive in BSC
play this week. The Bulldogs
crushed St. Mary’s 307-342 to
increase their conference record
to 5-0 and an overall record of
6-3.
Fred Hopkins led the Bulldogs
with a 2 over par 74 at the Max
Starcke Golf Course. Hopkins
was followed by Pat Bailey, 75,
Bob Kullman 78, Mike Ellaby
79, Harold Leinweber 82, and
Jack Olsen 88.
Even though the team is do-
ing great in conference play so
for everything lies in the hands
of a 54 hole tournament. The
biggest threat (and heavily fav-
ored) is Texas Wesleyan College,
who has won it 11 out of 12 years
in their strong dominance of the
BSC.

On Wednesday night the Bull-
dogs came from behind to defeat
SWTSU 6-4. In the top of the
first D. Varga walked and scored
following two consecutive singles
by R. Wilburn and Jim Pruski.
Pruski scored the second South
West run on a wild pitch by Mike
Macon.
The Bulldogs came back in the
bottom of the first with a single
run. Pat Smith doubled to right
and was knocked in by a single
by Roy Reichenbach.
South West fought back in the
top of the fifth. Varga singled
to left. Will then made an an er-
ror at short stop on Wilburns
ground allowing both players to be
safe at first and sec aid. Prus-
ki wasted no time hitting a double
to knock in the other SWT runs.
The Bulldogs scored four big
runs during a hectic fifth inniner.
Doug, Barrera reached first on an
error and then advanced to se-
cond on a passed ball. Wells
then singled to center scoring
Barrera. Wells stole second and
continued on to third on a bad
throw. On a ball hit to third
R. Reichenbach was safe on the
throw and scored Wells from
third. Reichenbach advanced to
third on a hard single hit to deep
right center by Beidiger. Rei-
chenbach and Beidiger were botn
knocked in by Mueller’s single to
left. Mueller was thrown out at
home after a couple throwing
errors enabled him to try to
make it all the way around.
The Bulldogs completed the
scoring in the bottom of the
sixth. Will bunted safely down
the third base line and then stole
second. Will then advanced to
third cm a ground ball hit to
second. Don Reichenbach hit
ground out to third but Will
scored on Reichenbach’s out.
South West appeared to come
alive but Varga was called out
for missing third on his way to
an apparent score the enthusiasm
was soon dampened.
Mike Macon picked up the Bull-
dog victory while Schwetner ab-
sorbed the Bobcat lost.

in Marshall they have another
night home game with St. Ed-
ward’s University April 29„ In
the first encounter the ‘‘Buzzy”
Keller coached nine eeked out
a 4-3 win. A three game sweep
would place the ‘Dogs in a cru-
cial titl with the St. Mary’s Rat-
tlers May 2 who are now at the
top of the standings with a 5-0
record. However, the Saints have
all their remaining games on the
