Is Spelling Bee
Head For County
Judge Clarence Williams, who is
also ex-officio Superintendent of
Education, is the 1966 Spelling Bee
Director for Carson County.
Sometime before April 9, the Car-
son County Bee will be held, and
the champion will go to Amarillo
on April 23 for the annual regional
elimination for the National Spell-
ing Bee.
Last year, Wanna Sue Garmon,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Garmon of Groom, was the Carson
County champion. She was an 8th
grade student in Groom school.
The Amarillo Globe-News, which
has sponsored the High Plains area
bee since 1949, also has a unique
secondary contest — the Junior
Spelling Bee, open only to contest-
ants from the 6th and lower grades.

Each county champion receives

In the school contests, each win-
