and that means being accessible at any time.
“Jake from State Farm, that’s a real thing. That makes us
24/7 instead of bankers’ hours. There’s a lot of times when
on the weekends I’m answering Facebook messages from
customers. But that’s the good part about it, that’s the part I
enjoy: being that accessible,” she said. “It can be 9 p.m. on a
Wednesday night, and I’ll answer an email. That makes me
feel like I’m doing a good job.”
While plenty is changing every day in the insurance busi-
ness, some things still stay the same, according to Howington.
“People are still the same - their worries, their concerns,
what they’re trying to protect. That’s never going to change,”
she said.
“When I first was approached with this business, I wasn’t
sure I wanted it because it was sales. That sounded like used
car sales. I wasn’t sure I wanted to be a part of that. When I
looked at this from an educational standpoint, I can help them
with what they need for their household ... or help them find
something else they need that fits in their budget. That’s one
of the things I enjoy most about it.”
Her daughter Julie graduates high school next year, and
her son Rob is majoring in health sciences at Texas A&M at
Corpus Christi.
As for what the future holds, Howington knows what she’s
happy doing.
“I’m going to do this until I’m walking through the door with
a walker. I like the people, and I enjoy feeling like I’m help-
ing them,” she said. “I love this town.”
