1948-Dr. Gerald E. Martin, Hannibal-LaGrange College,
Hannibal, MO 63401, who has served Hannibal-LaGrange College
as president and chancellor since 1973 requested the trustees
relieve him of all administrative duties as of July, 1982 in order to
pursue a lifetime desire to be an evangelist. He will continue to carry
the title, Chancellor for External Affairs and perform certain duties
for the college.
1949- Mr. and Mrs. Russell Morris, (Betty Lane, '49), Box
185, Tanga, Tanzania, write: "In July, 1980, we returned to Tan-
zania from a very busy furlough. We returned to Tanga to continue
working with the churches in Tanga Region as Church Development
Advisor (evangelist). Then the Mission elected Russell as Mission
Administration Chairman. This is quite an honor, but also quite a lot
of work, decision making and travel . . . We are very thankful for
the many words of encouragement and support from our children,
friends, and co-workers. Truly, God has led us through some dif-
ficult decisions, and He has blessed our entire Mission with a new
spirit of love and cooperation.
1949-CMSGT Willard H. Stell, 1933 A Yuma ct., F.E. War-
ren AFB, WY 82001, is assigned as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for
4th Air Division. In this capacity, he is the advisor on enlisted affairs
to the commanding general for four Air Force Wings on three SAC
bases.
1949-Saralyn (Teaff) Winn, 4218 N. Barr, Oklahoma City,
OK 73119. is Director of Public Health Nursing and Director of
Nursing personnel for Oklahoma City.
1950's
1950-Rev. L.B. Moss, 209 Briarwood Addition, Granbury
76048, is pastor of the Southside Baptist Church. His wife is the
former Alda Worley, '50.
1950-Paul Petty, 2108 E. Montana Dr., Tucson, AZ 85706,
has been named the new head football coach at Las Cruces High
School, Las Cruces, NM. His wife is the former Cecilo I. Collins,
'56.
1953-Judy (Rosier) Billings, Guatemala Baptist Mission,
Foreign Mission Board, Southern Baptist Convention, Apartado
1135, Guatelama, C.A., writes: "We know that many of you have
been wondering about the Billings down in Guatemala. Some of
you have taken time to write and express your concern and your
prayers for us. We appreciate all of you and want you to know that
God has given us a very special peace about being here up to this
point. There is an element of stress because of the political situation
and our work is limited in some areas of the country where it is not
safe to travel. The three children, Lisa, Michelle and Marshall, are
doing well at Huehue Academy in Western Guatemala ... Kellye is
working in a CPA office in Harlingen, TX, since receiving her BBA
degree from Texas A&M in December. Leigh Anne has just com-
pleted her second year at HSU and she will be a part of a BSU fine
arts team to Brazil this summer.
1953-Mrs. Glenn L. Myers (Bonnie A. Wilkins), 4016 Circle
Dr., Vernon 76384, shared honors as the 1981-82 special educa-
tion teacher of the year with Sue Koch. Bonnie teaches at Hawkins
Elementary School and Sue teachers at Central Elementary. The
awards recognize outstanding achievement in teaching and devo-
tion to the needs of children with special learning problems. During
her 28 years in the classroom, she has taught in Alaska, Hawaii,
New Mexico and Texas as she followed her husband to various loca-
tions during his military career. They have three children; Terry and
Linda both of Dallas and Roger who is a student at HSU.
1953-Edmund L. Nichols, C/O American Embassy, APO
NY 09170, has been appointed as agricultural counselor on the
U.S. Embassy staff in Copenhagen. He moved to his new post
directly from Rome, where he served as counselor for agricultural
affairs. In his new position he will be responsible for agricultural
reporting and market development activities in Denmark and Nor-
way, countries which were markets for $341 million worth of U.S.
agricultural exports in 1981. Edmund, his wife, Sandra, anddaughter have been in Copenhagen since late January. Two other
children will join the family when school is out.
1954-Foye L. Flood, Box 272, new Deal 79350, has been
named superintendent of Seymour schools and will assume the
duties there July 1. He has 25 years experience in education, 14 in
administrative positions. He has been with the New Deal ISD since
1967, where he was principal of the elementary school until 1970,
when he became superintendent.
1954- Dr. Edward V. Tapscott, 13418 Tosca Lane, Houston
77079, has been named Chairman of the Association of Academic
Deans and Vice Presidents for the 1981-82 school year at Houston

Affairs. It marks the second time that he has been elected to the
post. The organization consists of academic deans and vice
presidents in all of the four year institutions, community colleges and
junior colleges in Texas. He is married to the former Betty
Stevens, '53.
1955-International Tours of Abilene held its grand opening of
its office Tuesday, May 4. The full-service travel agency, is owned
by Mr. and Mrs. Claude Hicks, (Jenny Lind Cargile, '68), Box
5159, Abilene 76905. Claude is president of Hendrick Home for
Children and Jenny has taught for the Abilene ISD for 14 years.
1956-Norman C. Skipworth, 204 Forestway, Conroe
77304, is an air traffic controller at Houston Air Route Traffic Con-
trol Center. His wife is the former Diane Patten.
1957-John Pennington Baker, Jr., Box 7345, Monroe, LA
71203, has been awarded a MBA in Business Administration by
Northeast Louisiana University.
1967-Gerald Petree, Rt. 1, Albany 76430, was given an
award for outstanding service to agricultural and rural life in
Shackelford County at the annual Albany Chamber of Commerce
banquet in March. Noted for his involvement in civic and church ac-
tivities, he has won top honors in the state hay show the past two
years.
1957-Lewis C. Price, Rt. 2, Box 647 A, Cleveland 77327, is
district manager serving five counties, including Houston for
American Amicable, Life Insurance Co. Lewis writes, "My wife,
Bobbie, and I celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary this October
and we still love each other and HSU-We do enjoy the Range
Rider and read it all."
1957-Glen W. Ray, 1606 Clemson Circle, Cincinnati, OH
45230, and his wife, Susan, were among 40 persons appointed
home missionaries by the Southern Baptist Mission Board in Oc-
tober. Glen is director of associational missions for Cincinnati, Ohio,
Prior to this appointment, he served as pastor of churches in Ohio
and Texas.
1957-Billie Sue (Pitts) Scott, 1318 Westridge, Abilene
79605, has ventured into the world of business with the opening of
the Flower Garden and Tea Room in River Oaks Shopping Center.
The Flower Garden and Tea Room offers a variety of food menus
and sells flower arrangements, candles and other merchandise.
1958-Charles Massegee, Box 96, Ranger 76470, and his
wife, Beverly, prayed their daughter Lora Lee would survive the
rare disease, primary oxalosis, that killed her brother four years ago.March 1-April 30 memorials

Baldwin.They then "put feet" to their prayers and on January 28, Lora Lee
received a kidney donated by her mother. Only about 20 cases of
the illness have been diagnosed. In Lora Lee's unique case, the ail-
ment confined itself to the kidneys. The operation was performed at
the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis. "She's
doing great," says Charles.
1958-Randall F. Reeves, Box 57, Mt. Moriah, MO 64566, is
pastor of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. He is married to the former
Joan M. Watson, '54. She writes, "In December of 1979, Randall
had a heart attack, followed with open heart surgery In March,
1980. He is doing 'great.' We give the Lord all the credit."
1959-Rev. Bill Hindman, 6821 Valhalla, Ft. Worth 76116,
writes: "Just a note to let you know that the Bill Hindman family has
moved to Ft. Worth." Bill is the pastor of Ridglea West Baptist
Church. He had formerly pastored Monterey Baptist Church in Lub-
bock for 121/2 years. Mark is a junior at Texas Tech and Dale is a
sophomore at Western Hills High School in Ft. Worth. His wife, the
former Tawana Thompson, '59, plans to continue teaching and
being a busy pastor's wife.
1960's
1960-Larry E. Joyce, 3813 Tapestry Ct., Piano 75075, has
been appointed Vice President, Communications, for the American
Heart Association's National Center in Dallas. Larry and his wife,
the former Gall Galbraith, '59, have three children.
1960-Wendell T. Newman, 1024 Shannon Lane, Franklin,
TN 37064, writes, "I have moved to Nashville. I am employed at
the Baptist Sunday School Board as Field Service Coordinator for
the Church Recreation Department...."
1961-Clyde J. Berkley, 1712 Las Vegas Trail, #224, Ft.
Worth 76108, entered Southwestern Seminary in May. He retired
from the Army after serving 21 years. He and his wife, the former
Ann Turner, '61, have been approved for appointment as foreign
missionaries to Kenya. They will be in Ft. Worth until December.
1962-J. Vernon Hilliard, 2900 Edgemere, #D, Plainview
79072, was inducted into the Meet of Champions Hall of Honor in
Houston in early May. He retired from the Wayland Baptist Univer-
sity athletic staff in 1980 after a coaching career that spanned almost
50 years. During his career he coached numerous championship
teams in football and track on every level, and built seven running
tracks at high schools and colleges where he coached. One of those,
the Wayland Bowl, was named J.V. Hilliard Field in his honor in
1980.
1963-"For all my friends who keep up on changes and events
thru the Range Rider-we have moved to RR 2-105 View Drive,
Sedona, AZ 86336. I am a student of archaeology at Northern
Arizona University In Flagstaff working toward finishing my BA
degree." signed: Holly (Green) Emerick.
1964- Dr. and Mrs. Leroy Humphries, (Judy Hollars,'64),
7029 W. 42nd., Amarillo 79109, have reason to be proud of their
eldest son, John. John was awarded an eight-week trip to Japan as
one of two Texas winners in the Japan-United States Senate
Scholarship Project of Youth for Understanding. The scholarship is
administered by Youth for Understanding, an international student
exchange organization. He will be one of 100 American students
who are appointed each summer by their senators to become YFU
exchange students to Japan.
Leroy is busy at the Cancer Center and Judy teaches first grade
for Amarillo ISD. They have another son, Rex, who is studying in
the Suzuki violin program at Amarillo College.
1964-Charles Pope, 320 West Wolfcamp, Hobbs, NM
88240, is Administrative supervisor for Amoco Production Co.
Charles and his wife, the former Ethel Thomas, '65, have three
daughters; Crystal, 13; Sheri, 10; and Ginger, 6. We always enjoy
when our alumni stop by for a visit, as Charles did during the last
part of March.
1965 -Frances (Darden) Carrington, 2532 Atlas Dr., Rome,
NY 13440, is serving as president of the 350-member Officers
Wives Club at Griffiss Air Force Base. Prior to assuming the
presidency, Frances was the organization's scholarship chairman.
As such, she collected funds for and administered a $2,500 pro-
gram of financial aid to college-bound high school seniors. She is
currently employed as American Red Cross field director agent at
Griffiss.
Prior to her death in 1980, Frances' mother, the late Martha
Linton Darden, 74, held the same position at Dyess Air Force
Base in addition to 20 years of service with the Taylor County
Chapter of Red Cross in Abilene. After June 1, Frances and her
husband LTC Royle P. Carrington, III, will be living in Ankara,
Turkey, where he will be legal counsel to the Joint U.S. Military Mis-
sion for Aid to Turkey.
1965-Roy A. Jones, II, 417 N. LaSalle, Abilene 79603, has
been promoted to the rank of major with the 490th Civil Affairs
Company, U.S. Army Reserve in Abilene. He is a senior staff writer
who has covered the courthouse beat for the Abilene Reporter-
News since 1968 and has more than 16 years of military service. He
is the unit public affairs officer with additional duties of public infor-
mation officer and officer in charge of physical fitness. Roy is a
marathon runner, with 38 of the 26-mile races to his credit, plus two
biathlons and one triathlon. He won the Army Reserve's top news-
writing award in 1978 for a first-person story about his first
marathon. He and his wife, Trish, have three children, Christi, 8;
Tres, 3; and Matthew, 1.
1968-Winlfred Waller, Box 1285, Albany 76430, was
honored at the Albany Chamber of Commerce banquet in March,
