Hendrix Named Director of Alumni Relations
Loraine Rivers Hendrix has been named Director of Alumni Relations. She
began work September 1, according to Richard M. Styles, Senior Vice President
for Advancement.
Mrs. Hendrix and her husband, Gene, are both alumni of Hardin-Simmons.
She attended 1965 to 1967 when they were married. Following their move to
Mississippi, she attended Mississippi College and graduated with a B.S. in Edu-
cation in 1977 and an M.E. in Education in 1979. Both degrees were "with
distinction." She also has done graduate work at Northeast Louisiana University
and Northwestern State University.
In addition to teaching at the elementary school level, she has taught the
hearing impaired and developmental studies. Prior to returning to HSU, she
was Director of Academic Advisement and Developmental Studies at McMurry
University.
She and her husband are members of First Baptist Church where he serves
as Minister of Education and Administration. Both have
worked with college students at First Baptist and other
churches throughout their careers. She also has taught Sun-
day School conferences at Glorieta Baptist Assembly in New
Mexico and Ridgecrest Baptist Assembly in North Carolina.
As Director of Alumni Relations, Mrs. Hendrix is
responsible for all aspects of the alumni program at Hardin-
Simmons, including campus events, alumni meetings across
the nation, alumni records and information, and the publica-

for development were named to the
Advancement staff in August. The
announcement was made by Richard
M. Styles, Senior Vice President for
Advancement.
Bobby Cobbs from Salem, Vir-
ginia, assumed the position of Direc-
tor of Campaigns and Special
Projects. His responsibilities include
the Loyalty Fund, the University's
annual giving campaign, future capital
campaigns, and special fund raising
projects.
Prior to coming to Hardin-
Simmons, Cobbs served as assistant
executive director for development
and communications at the Virginia
Baptist Children's Home in Salem,
Virginia. He directed all institutional
advancement and promotional efforts
for this statewide agency. He started
working with the Children's Home in
1980 serving as an administrative
coordinator for the northern regional
office in Annandale, Virginia. In 1895,
he moved to the central office in
Salem.

University with a Bachelor of Arts in
Sociology. He proudly states, how-
ever, "My mother attended Hardin-
Simmons." She was Mary Vic Weir
(now Mrs. Louis Cobbs) who attended
Hardin-Simmons in the mid-forties
before transferring to nursing school.
Cobbs also has two advanced degrees
from Southern Baptist Theological
Seminary: the Master of Science in
Social Work and the Master of Reli-
gious Education.
In the develop-
mnent field, he has
credentials as a
Certified Fund Rais-
ing Executive and is
a graduate of the
Robert Sharpe
National Planned
Cobbs Giving Institute. He
is a member of the
National Society of Fund Raising
Executives and the National Planned
Giving Association.
In 1974 he married and he and
his wife, Brenda, have two children,Amy, 15; and Andy, 12. They are
members of Melrose Baptist Church
in Roanoke, Virginia, where he serves
as a deacon.
Bill Bailey from Abilene assumed
the position of Director of Major
Donor Support. His responsibilities
include developing and implementing
a long-range program in major donor
support, including indi-viduals, founda-
tions and corporations.
Bailey, an alumnus of Hardin-
Simmons, served three years as direc-
tor of development at McMurry Uni-
versity before returning to "The Forty
Acres." He was responsible for identi-
fying and cultivating major donors,
developing a planned giving program,
and supporting the annual giving
program and alumni activities.
He attended Hardin-Simmons in
1979-80, later trans-
ferring to Texas
Tech where he
received the B.B.A.
in Finance. Earlier
he had received the
Associate Degree in
Agricultural Tech-
nology from South
Plains College.
Bailey Prior to coming
to McMurry, Bailey worked as devel-
opment director for the American
Cancer Society in Fort Worth and
Dallas. He served as a field representa-
tive for the Society for two years prior
to being promoted to the metroplex
offices. His service with the American
Cancer Society was marked by several
awards, including the First Place
Metro Crusade Award for two succes-
sive years, 1989 and 1990.
He attended several conferences
and institutes on planned giving and
estate planning. He is a member of
the Abilene Business and Estate Plan-
ning Council and the National Society
of Fund Raising Executives.
Bailey is married and he and his
wife, Michelle, have three sons, Trey,
11; Tyler, 7; and Tanner, 5. They are
members of First Baptist Church,
Abilene.
