Letbetter Reunion
One of the happiest occasions
of the year was the celebration,
on the weekend of July 2, of the
annual Letbetter family re-
union, held at Sulphur Park,
Shiner.
This event was also the cele-
bration of “Munno” Letbet-
ter’s 86th birthday which falls
on July 4. All of her twelve
children, together with num-
erous grandchildren, great-
grandchildren, other relatives
and friends were present to join
in the two-day festive occasion.
As in the usual custom cab-
ins were reserved at Bel-Air
Courts in Hallettsville for Sat-
urday and Saturday night, and
some 35 members of the imme-
diate family registered, some
arriving in the early morning,
to share in the joyous pre-lude
that preceded the initial re-
union day on Sunday.
Closing out a perfect day of
happy greetings and reunion on
Saturday, everyone enjoyed a
festive box lunch of fried chick-
en, sandwiches, salads, cake and
soda water out under the cool,
canopied picnic area adjoining
the motel pool.
Following supper, domino
games, swimming, and remin-
iscing were engaged in until a
late hour.
On Sunday morning, “Mun-
no” Letbetter and several of
her children attended services
at the Shiner Baptist Church,
after which they joined the re-
maining group at Sulphur Park
where preparations were being
made for the noon-day meal.
Rev. Charles N. Russell, local
Baptist pastor, returned thanks
after a few words spoken in be-
half of the birthday honoree.
The sumptuous meal consist-
ed of fried chicken, baked ham,
barbecued beef, all sorts of
vegetables, salads, cakes, pies,
koiaches, hot rolls and iced tea.
The afternoon and evening
hours were pleasantly and lei-
surely spent in the playing of
various games, swimming, visit-
ing and reminiscing.
After a late supper, adieus
were said, and wishing “Mun-
no” “Many, Many Happy Re-
turns of the Day”, everyone re-
luctantly departed for their re-
spective homes.
