AGAIN-THANK YOU, TEXAS
We're Here to Stay
In the uncertain days of 1943 when America was
striving to get a firmer grip for its struggle toward
\ eventual victory, The General Tire & Rubber
Company began operations at the vitally important
t synthetic rubber plant at Baytown.
Baytown grew and produced well and as Baytown prospered The
General Tire & Rubber Company looked ahead. To serve this wide
area, postwar, with essential goods was an obligation of industry
so in 1944 The General Tire & Rubber Company built the state's
first tire plant at Waco.
The selection of Texas was deliberate. "
Study of the requirements necessary to . *
the successful operation of a vital war-
time enterprise revealed that Texas provided them all. The spacious
areas of the great Lone Star State were abundantly served by adequate
transportation. Labor was here, in skill and numbers sufficient to
every need. Below the rich soil of Texas, lay the natural resources so
essential in the production of synthetic rubber.
Two years have passed and today passenger car, truck, aircraft
and industrial tires manufactured at Waco are distributed to the
entire South and Southwest.
General Tire has been and continues to be proud of the faith
and loyalty which Texas has so generously bestowed upon it. And
as a growing part of Texas industry, General Tire pledges anew
its full support to the Southwest's industrial development.
