Business of National and State Banks of Texas
Below is a consolidated statement of the 434 national banks and 418 state banks of Texas,
as of Dec 31, 1946, with corresponding data for Dec 31, 1945. Banking developments in Texas
between the two year-end statements of 1945 and 1946 were characterized primarily by a
decline of 4.2 per cent in total resources of both state and national banks, and by an accom-
panying decline in holdings of United States Government obligations and in cash balances,
and an increase in loans and discounts and in the holdings of bonds and other obligations of
municipalities and other civil subdivisions and corporate bonds, stocks, notes, debentures and
acceptances
