A Mineral Wells resident is
a member of an all - star quiz
team of Baylor University
medical technology students
who will compete at the
national Student Bowl
Competition for Medical
Technology on June 21 in
Houston.
Cheryl Coon, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Coon of
•Mineral Wells, along with
three other team members
and four alternates, is
completing 12 months of
professional training at
Waco’s Hillcrest Baptist
Hospital medical technology
program to complete
requirements for certification
in medical technology.
The team’s skills in biology
and hospital laboratory
techniques have taken them
to the “head of the class”
nationally, and their
championship knowledge is
expected to result in top
scores on their medical
technology board
examinations as well,
according to program director
Woodie Scott.
Scott, director of the
medical technology program
at Hillcrest, said the group of
four students plus four
alternates has met twice a
week for several months to
review possible technical
questions for the tournament.
In recent years, the Hillcrest -
Baylor team members have
scored exceptionally well on
their medical technology
board examinations,
following careful preparation
for the bowl competitions.
The Hillcrest program is
ranked in the top 25 among
260 such programs in the
nation, based on student
scores, he said.

The Justice Department says
that all 50 states, the District
of Columbia, Puerto Rico and
the Virgin Islands, now have
laws or regulations governing
the privacy of criminal
history records.

Vaughan, president of
Amarillo - based Energas
Company, was elevated to the
office of chairman of the
board of the Texas Gas
Association during the
organization’s annual meeting
here this week.
Vaughan succeeds Emest
Harris, president of Brazos
River Gas Company of
Mineral Wells, as chairman of
the organization. Association
memberships number over
4.1)0 and include
representatives of about 35
Texas gas distribution and
transmission companies
which operate either
municipal or investor - owned
gas systems. Associate
memberships are held by
representatives of about 25
other companies, plus a
number of individuals.
Theme of this year’s well
attended meeting was
“Natural Gas. . . The Energy
So 1u t i o n . ” U.S.
Representative Jim Collins
(RDallas), in his keynote
address delivered during the
opening session of the three -
day gathering, set the pace
meeting. Other
include Texas
Commission
C.K. Vaughan succeeds
Harris as TGA chairman

Star Gas Company of Fort
Worth; Carson E. Franks,
secretary, representing
Rockwell International of
Houston; and Daniel J.
Crowley, treasurer,
representing Southern Union
Gas Company of Austin.
Frank Nowlin is president of
the association which
maintains offices in Lago
Vista.
In addition to the officers
elected at the annual meeting
of the Texas Gas Association,
as indicated in the attached
news release, Leon Wallace,
employed by the Brazos
River Gas Company, was
elected as a member of
T.G.A.’s Board of Directors
for the 1982 • 1983 year.
