The Humane Society of
Coleman County will begin the
2014 membership on October
5, 2013 at the Fiesta de
Paloma. We will have our
usual booth at the Fiesta with a
number of dogs looking for for-
ever homes.
As most people know, mem-
bership in the Humane Society
is not an obligation in any way.
It mainly shows your support of
our organization and the work
being done to help with
spay/neuter costs for everyone
as well as assistance to low-
income families in getting vac-
cinations. We also support our
kennel on Hwy. 153 which is
home to the dogs we currently

Santa Anna Public libraries
thru the end of November.
** Member Raye King
introduced the guest speak-
er, Ernie Yates. Mr. Yates
sketched out the plans for
the new Community
Garden being developed by
Loaves and Fishes Ministry.
Individual raised beds will
be available for families to
plant and harvest. The gar-
den will feature a natural
approach. Plans are devel-
oping rapidly for construc-
tion to start soon. Local tal-
ent and resources are com-
ing together to develop the
garden. Mitzi King is serv-
ing as chairperson for the
community project. The
Community Garden project
will be quite a challenge but
have true economic and
health benefits for so many.

COLEMAN COUNTY TEACHERS SPONSOR DRAWING for
Mondo Bag - Mondo Bag??? Mondo Bag??? What is it? Who
needs it? It is an enormous tote bag designed with numerous
pockets to carry anything you can imagine. You need it. This one
was quilted of a wildflower, Texas calico print by Carole
Burroughs, TRTA president. You can get a chance for one. Just
visit the TRTA booth at the upcoming Fiesta on October 5th and
make your donation of $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. Drawing will be
held at 4:00 p.m. (You need not be present to win.) Monies from
this project will benefit the local chapter’s Scholarship Fund for
new teachers and the annual Children’s Book project. If you can’t
make it to the Fiesta, call Carla Billings at 625-5302.

2013 in regular session at
Hidalgo’s. Newly installed
president, Carole
Burroughs, presided over
the meeting. Important
items on the agenda includ-
ed:
** Memorial service for
Willie C. Gilbreath
** Texas State
Representative Ron Keffer
Appreciation Day will be
hosted by the Brown
County TRTA on
September 24th from 10:00
a.m. to noon in Early at the
Early Economic Building
located at 104 E. Industrial
Drive. Rep. Keffer was key
supporter of a long overdue
cost of living increase for
retired teachers.
** A drawing for a Mondo
Bag will be held at the Oct.
5th Fiesta. This fundraiser
will benefit the Scholarship
Fund and the Children’s
Book Project. Monies are
needed to purchase the
300 plus books presented
to Coleman County stu-
dents each year. The
Mondo Bag is a handcraft-
ed, calico quilted tote with
Texas floral prints. Carole
Burroughs designed this
one with plenty of pockets
