Children enjoying
attending Storytime
Children participating in
storytime at Alexander
Memorial Library began the
new year last Tuesday by
viewing the film "The Little Old
Woman and Her Pig ” They
also heard two classic stories
entitled "The Little Red Hen"
and "The Gingerbread Boy”.
Children three to five years of
age are welcome to participate
in this community program
every Tuesday morning from 10
to 10:30 a m. at the library
Children are offered films,
flannel board stories, songs and
are read stones found in the
well equipped children s
library
Those attending Tuesday's
session included: Jennifer
Tenerv. Jennifer Baker, Josh
Butcher, Larry Crisp, Melanie
Oltmann, Teresa Garza,
Brittney Daughtrey, Paul
Nickell, Sandra White and
Jeremy Mangum. Storytellers
working with the libaaray
sponsored program include
Mrs Clarissa Pena, Mrs Jill
Brisocoe, Mrs. Connie Mangum
and Mrs Linda Oltmann.
Media Open
House slated
Films and other audiovisual
materials available to the
public schools through
Education Service Center,
Region 20 will be shown to
parents and other interested
citizens during a one-day
review session, Friday,
January 25th.
The media “open house" is
scheduled for 9 a m. to4pm at
Region 20 s Instructional Media
Center, 1314 Hines Ave., west of
IH 35 at the Walters Street exit
in San Antonio. Persons may
come and go anytime during the
day.
The reviews are held four
times annurally as a means of
keeping parents and other
citizens informed about media
furnished by Region 20 for use
in school classrooms throughout
a 14-county southwest Texas
area
“We hope persons interested
in seeing a particular film, will
notify the Center at least 10
days in advance," Dr. Dwain M
Estes, Executive Director,
says "This will allow us to
obtain a film that may be
checked out and is requested for
viewing by a citizen."
The Region 20 Instructional
Media inventory includes about
10,000 films plus audiovisual
presentations. Fifty public
schools districts in the counties
of Bexar, Atascosa, Bandera.
Dimmit, Frio, Kerr, Kinney, La
Salle, Maverick, Medina, Real,
Uvalde, Wilson and Zavala
counties are eligible to par-
ticipate in the program.
Judge Roy Bean, a saloon-
keeper and justice of the
peace on the West Texas
frontier, once fined a corpse
$40 for carrying concealed
weapons, according to The
World Hook Encyclopedia.
