Leader Workshop Held
By Scouts Is Success
The Leader Operations
Workshop held by Cotulla's
Boy Scout Troop 150 last week-
end was a success! Almost all
of the entire Troop Committee,
the adult Scout leaders and Boy
Scouts were able to attend
and the entire Workshop went
off with but minor hitches All
of the Scouts attending the
Workshop gained new know-
lege of their particular jobs,
their other Scouting duties,
how to plan and hold inter-
esting Patrol and Troop meet-
ings. how to use available re-
sources in their plannings,
and how each of the Patrol must
work together as teams.
The Scout/Parent pot luck
dinner held Saturday night at the
Scout Hut was well received with
16 guests attending And thanks
to the efforts by Mrs Sharon
Stephenson in ciKirdinating the
"pot hick " menu, if anyone went
home hungry it was their own

last week
The first one occured
February 15. 7:24 p m on
the 800 blk of Carrizo.
The other was
February 16 at 9:30 p.m.
on Nueces St.

GREAT! The Scouts supplied
the meat dish, the dessert, and
the ' 'live entertainment’'.
On Sunday morning, following
their own conducted non-den-
ominational religious service,
the Scouts reviewed what they
had learned at the Workshop
and were issued a challenge by
their Scoutmaster to use those
ideas and knowledge to produce
"the best Troop in the entire
Alamo Area Council " At the
closing ceremonies, the Troop
Committee's Advancement
Chairman, Beverly Brummel,
presented each Scout with a
training certificate and tied a
"Hunter's Bend Knot" to a belt
loop to signify that this Scout
has passed the Workshop.
Most of the Scouts in the Alamo
Area Council recognize the use
of the "Rayado Knot" to sig-
nify that the wearer has passed
the Council’s Junior Leader
Development (JLD) training
Troop 150. in using the Hunters
Bend Knot to signify that the
wearer has completed the
GED Tests
Offered On
Two Dates
The G.E.D. will be offered
once again on March 8th and
9th. Two exams will be given on
Thursday the 8th and the re-
maining three on Friday the 9th
The five areas tested are Read-
ing. Writing. Math. Science,
and Social Studies There ia a
*15 fee for the total battery
of exams, or a (3 fee for each
exam for anyone interested in
taking only some of the exams
Anyone interested in taking the
exams must pre-register by
calling Mrs Julia Perez, at 879-
3100 between the hours of
8:00 a m and 4.00 p.m. De
tailed information (time, place,
etc.) will be given at that time
Leader Operations Workshop,
may be starting new award idea
in our Council. If nothing else,
the Hunters' Bend Knot will be
a cherished award in Troop 150
At the Troop's Court of Honor
that will be held in the Boy Scout
meeting room at the First
United Methodist Church on
Wednesday, February 29th,
at 6:30 PM, each Scout who
completed the Workshop will
also receive a TRAINED patch
to wear on the left sleeve of his
Scout shirt. All parents and
friends are invited to attend this
first Court of Honor for our
Troop in the 74th year of Boy
Scouting!

A person commits arson if
he starts a fire with the intent
to destroy or damage any
property building, habitation,
or vehicle within the limits of
an incorporated city or town,
or when he is reckless about
w heather the burning or ex-
plosion will endanger the life
of some individual or the safety
of the property of another.
According to the Texas
Penal Code it is a Felony of the
second degree Punishable
by confinement in the Texas
Department of Correction for
any term of not more than 20
years or less than 2 years.
Also may be punished by a fine
not to exceed *10,000 00
We are letting the public know
of such law and punishment to
make you aware of the serious-
ness of the situation. If any of
you know anyone who might be
involved in some of this grass
fires. see if you can make
them understand that whether
done for kicks or as a dare X
is a serious offense.

Set For
Children
The La Salle County Fair
Association is sponsoring a
“Little Boes Hog" and "Little
Miss Piggy " contest in conjunc-
tion with the La Salle County
Wild Hog Cook-off and Fair
The contest will be held at the
American Legion Hall on Friday.
March 9 at 7:30 PM. All little
ones between the ages of 3 and
5 who are residents of La Salle
County are eligible to enter
They should be dressed in wee
tern attire for the event. The
lads and lasses will be inter-
viewed by three out of town
judges during the contest which
will be hosted by emcee. Rev
Bill Sluder The winners will
ride a float in the 11 a.m. Fair
parade on Saturday. March 10
A runner up for "Utile Bov-
Hog" and "Little Miss Piggy
will also be chosen. The entry
fee will be *5.00 but local bus-
inesses will be asked to sponsor
the little ones wanting to enter

The Annual Frank
Neumann Jr. High track
meet will be held this
weekend Saturday,
February 25th.
The meet will enter seven
teams with four divisions.
The teams entered for the
meet include Carrizo
Springs, Devine, Freer,
Pearsall, Medina Valley,
Uvalde and host team
Cotulla. The four divisions
will be seventh grade girls,
eighth grade girls, seventh
grade boys and eighth grade
boys.

regular session on Feb. 13 at

followed by the 100 m dash,
400 m dash, the boys 300 m
low hurdles and 200 m. dash
Finals for the running
events will begin one hour
after the pre-lims have
terminated The finals for
the running events will in-
clude all pre-lim events plus
the 400 m relay. 800 m
dash, girls 800 m relay, 1600
m run and the final event
will be the 1600 m. relay
Trophies will be awarded
to the champion and runner
up m each division. Ribbons
will be awarded to the first
six places in each event.

Considered
Reports from Austin indicate
the Texas low level Nuclear
Waste Authority is continuing
w its search for a low level nuclear
waste dump.
In La Salle County a site
near Encinal is being consid-
ered. Other sites being consid-
ered, include Dimmit and the
West Texas counties of Borden
and Hudspeth.
The La Salle County site near
Woodward is not suitable for
nuclear waste storage on a long
term basis, according to offi-
cials. The Woodward site would
be used for storing nuclear
waste in shipment to the final
disposal site.
In Dimmitt County a public
hearing on the Asherton site
was scheduled for last Tues-
day in Carrizo Springs.

dence Day in 1897. This first
March 2 celebration revolved
around students "borrowing "
a cannon from the Capitol
after UT President Winston
denied their request for a Texas
Independence Day

versity of Texas Ex-students in
La Salle and Frio County join
more than a quarter million other
Texas Exes in celebrating Texas
Independence Day and recog-
nizing the University at a cele-
bration at Crazy Horse starting
at 6:30 PM
The meeting, which will in-
clude guest speaker George
Blanch, former UT Star, is open
to the public. It is one of hun-
dreds taking place worldwide

In Truck-Car
Wreck
A mexican national was in-
jured and her four children es-
caped injury when her auto
collided with an 18 wheeler one
mile north of Encinal Sen irrisy
at 3:30 p.m. on IH 35.
The injured woman was re-
ported in stable condition at
Mercy Hospital, Laredo Re-
ports indicate she was north-
bound in the southbound lane,
when the headon collision occ-
ured
The accident was worked by
State Troopers Johnny Ward
and Miguel Rodriguez
La Salle County Ambulance
transported the injured to
Laredo.

torical quilt which I wrote about
several weeks ago is now hang-
ing in the museum, at least I
hope it is still hanging on the
wall Saturday I secured foam
sticky tape on the back of the
quiit and seemed th.it ll would
adhere securely to the only
wall space available If you re-
member, the quilt was made by
the ladies of the Methodist
Church in 1931. Each square of
the quilt contains the name of
the lady that made the square

this new addition to our histone
collection.
