and make this an occasion to honor those
who served Americana in all wars
President Eisenhower, in 1964. signed
the bill proclaiming November 11 as
Veterans Day. and he called for
Americans everywhere to rededicate
t hemselves to the cause of peace
Additional significance was addtxl to
Veterans Day in 1968, when two more
unidentified American war dead— one
from World War II and the other from the
Korean Conflict— were brought to Arling-
ton Cemertery from overseas, and
interred beside the World War I soldier
On Memorial Day 1984, an unidentified
American war dead from the Vietnam
conflict was interred alongside the other
unidentified dead at the tomb of the Un-
known Soldier
From 1971 to 1975, Veterans Day was
observed on the fourth Monday in
October in compliance with a 1968
law that changed most national holidays
to Mondays.
Believing, however, that the November
11 date held great significance, for this
country, Congress passed a law in 1975
which returned the holiday to November
11. The law became effective in 1978,
the sixtieth anniversary of the World
War I Armistice.
On November 11, 1986 the
American Legion Port 409 and the
American Legion Auxiliary of Cotulla
held their annual Veteran Memorial
Ceremony at the local Legion hall.
The program begin at 10:00 a m.
with two pre-kindergarten classes leading
the pledge of allegiance, and singing
several patriotic songs.
The color guard flag bearers from
Cotulla Boy Scout troop 160, Lloyd
Stephenson, leader made their entry.

Not only are computers enabling
physically handicapped students a
greater opportunity to participate in
regular classroom activities, butit
also helps students with learning
disabilities.
Through pilot programs it has
been learned that students with
learning disabilities benefit greatly
from the one to one instructions
provided by the computer. The
ability of the computer to give im-
mediate individual feed-back and
provide repetitive exercises and
drills for the students to work on, has
enhanced the education of local

Electricity to
use it 1 hour.. 7/10ths of 10
In the face of heroic increases in the prices
of everything under the sun, electricity costs
less than twice as much per kilowatt hour
today as it did in 1949. Of course, we re using
eight times as much now which sometimes
produces a heroic monthly bill.
But when we count the myriad ways
electricity helps us, then we recognize its
heroic value.
