Don’t get distracted from the real thing - the words of Jeremiah and
the gospel of Christ are not Spam messages: They are living water, water
that becomes “a spring of water gushing up to eternal life” (John 1:14).

Where does the term “spam” come from? According to Andrew
Kantor, of The Internet World Magazine. "Spam is what happens when
you take luncheon meat and put it through a fan and it sort of sprays
everywhere." We know in our hearts that the secret to success is general-
ly not found in an offer that comes via Spam When we see these mes-
sages on the Net. most of us say to ourselves: "That just doesn’t hold
water!” (Of course, who would expect that a net could hold water?)
The God of Israel lets us know that the messages of other gods just
don’t hold water. There is no profit to be found in following Lord
Delusion or Lord Useless - two Hebrew puns in Jeremiah’s passage. The
source of true abundance is the Lord God of Israel, the one who is a
cleansing, refreshing "fountain of living water.” not a leaky cistern
This week's guest writer is the Rev. Mark Forrest, pastor of First Baptist
Church of Murphy and a member of the Wylie Ministerial Alliance.
What kind of Spam are you facing today? What messages are bom-
barding you, causing you to chase worthless things ?
This God is the one that brings us out of captivity, gives us a plentiful
land and blesses us with rich and abundant life.
The people of Israel were suckers for the spam that was being sent to
them by the followers of other gods. They "went after worthless things."
says God through Jeremiah in Chapter 2 of his book, "and became worth-
less themselves.” The priests, rulers and prophets of Israel failed to lead
the country in the way of the Lord, and the people changed their glory for
things “that do not profit.”
In His indictment, the Lord God accuses the people of two great evils.
1. “They have forsaken me. the fountain of living water.” and
2. They have "dug out cisterns for themselves, cracked cisterns that can
hold no water" (Jeremiah 2:13)

Have you been "spammed" lately? Spamming is the sending of the
same message - usually junk e-mail - to everyone on a list.

About 45 percent of binge eaters
are men. Eating for emotional rea-
sons, they consume large amounts
of food in short periods of time, feel
out of control and are usually
ashamed of their actions.
Bulimics also consume large
amounts of food, but their binging
is followed by purging. Unlike
female bulimics who turn to self-
induced vomiting or laxative abuse,
male bulimics often purge through
excessive exercise.
Anorexia, or self-starvation, is
the least diagnosed disorder.

wrestlers, swimmers and marathon-

Proper amounts of flouride are
necessary to prevent tooth decay,
but can too much flouride cause
concern?
“We are seeing flourosts in a
large percentage of children in
areas with or without flouride in
the water," said Dr. Bruce Carter, a
dentist at Texas Children’s
Hospital in Houston. “Many feel
this is related to excessive flouride
ingestion from toothpaste.”
Dental fluorosis can alter the
color and enamel of developing
teeth. It occurs when too much
flouride is ingested in childhood
when tooth enamel is forming.
Brushing twice a day is impor-
tant, but children under six should
be observed to ensure they use a
pea-sized amount of toothpaste and
do not swallow flouinated dental
products.

Females are not the only ones
falling victim to obsessive pursuits
of the "perfect body.”
Approximately 10 percent of
patients diagnosed with an eating
disorder are male.
"Most people do not automatical-
ly suspect anorexia when they see a
very thin man," said Jane
Rosenbaum. LMSW-ACP with the
Baylor College of Medicine Eating
Disorders Program in Houston.
As society continues to idealize a
strong muscular physique, many
males equate fat with weakness,
officials said."Typically, males who
develop an eating disorder start off
with a weight problem,”
Rosenbaum said. "They try to diet,
it doesn't work and they restrict
their food even more. For those
