OrangeBank/Hibernla to build new bank In Bridge City. The property located on Texas Avenue presently
houses a frame shop and fruit stand. These businesses will relocate to the former C&C Tire Co. next door.
The property Is being purchased from Eddie Cone who has bought the property that will house the frame
shop. The bank location Is known as the former Tenney's Drlve-ln. The building, which was recently remodeled,
will be torn down and replaced with a modern edifice. Hibernia recently merged with OrangeBank. Carlos
Vacek will continue to serve as head of the four Orange County Bank locations in Orange, North Orange, Vidor
and Bridge City.

Solar car speeds BC's
Dobbs to Sunrayce
A new police station Is In the works for Bridge City. The location was originally built by Dr. Barnett on Texas
Avenue. The city has needed a new facility for some time. The City Council win vote on the approval of the purchase
of at their regular meeting Tuesday.
Bridge City native Barry Murchison has joined the staff at
Bridge City Bank as Assistant-Vice President.
A resident of Bridge City and 1967 graduate of Bridge City
High School, Murchison, according to bank president Jerry
Davidson, compliments the community oriented philosophy of the
39 year old banking institution here.
"Barry has been a valued member of our community for many
years," Davidson said, "Because of his education, experience as a
Southeast Texan, and sensitivity to the needs of the people here,
he naturally fits right in with our way of serving customers."
Murchison was graduated from Lamar University in 1971 after
earning a BBA degree In accounting. Prior to joining Bridge City
Bank he also has been employed with First Security National Bank,
United States Steel, and a twelve year employee for Gulf States

Turnbull is a 1988 magna cum

University. Turnbull has the
distinction of being the first
student in the school's history to
score a perfect 100 percent on
final oral doctoral exams*.

Parish said the increase was
much needed as teacher pay
is an issue having a negative impact on local districts.
"We are facing a teacher shortage. We don't get as many
entering teaching as we used to, because they're going to
jobs that offer more money.
"Area districts used to be higher paying because of area
industry, but they're now down almost to state base pay,"
Parish explained. "And where there used to be a thick stack
of applicants (for teaching positions), now that stack can be

Sunrayce '97. Dobbs is a
member of a Texas A&M
engineering team who will drive
a solar-powered car from
Indiana to Colorado June 19-28.
This week's race is the last leg
of national competition in a
series sponsored by General
Motors, Electronic Data
Systems and the U.S.
Department of Energy. The
race starts on the track of the
Indianapolis 500 and then
continues cross-country to
Colorado Springs, Colo., a
distance of 1,200 miles, without
a drop of fuel. The top three
winners advance to international
competition in Australia this
summer.

Tuesday, June 17. Included on
the docket is the final vote on
the city's new police station.

"I have every confidence they
will," City Manager Jeff Ellington
said.
"It's been needed for a iong
time," Steve Faircloth, BC police
chief, said. "We've grown,
we've improvised and made
things work here, but we
outgrew this building a long time
ago."
The police department
building on Rachel Street was
originally built in 1955 for the
' water department. It was added
onto in 1971 and became City

The Texas A&M Sunraycer team's Mach V solar-powered vehicle races
across the continent on energy equivalent to the power of a 1500 watt blow
dryer while the driver Is suspended on webbing in the cockpit
