Curriculum director Janie Rudolph
presented the Board with the prelimi-
nary TAK.S testing results noting that
overall, the district is pleased with the
performance of the Yoakum students
as this is the first year that the test
has been administered. Additionally,
she stated the faculty has already said
planning in preparation for future test-
ing
Elwood Gaus provided an update
on the contract negotiations with the
firm of Pritchard & Abbott for the
utilization of tax collection software.
The two-year contract has been
agreed upon in principal and signing
is pending. Fling provided the Na-
tional School Lunch Income Eligibil-
ity Guidelines for 2003-04 which
were approved by the Board as well
as the Yoakum cafeteria meal prices.
The prices for the 2003-04 school
year remain unchanged.
Mr. Matthew noted that bids were
necessary to secure purchase of oil,
antifreeze, milk and bread products
for the upcoming school year. The
board voted to authorize Fling to ob-
tain these bids with Mr. Poyner and
board member Terry Boening to re-
view.
Also approved was authorization
for F ling to initiate the Application of
Federal Funds for the 2003-2004
school year. Delegates for the annual
TASB-TASA Convention, to be held
in Dallas, Sept. 19-22, were appointed
with Terry Boening as the delegate
and Wait Hairell as the alternate at-
tendee.
By state mandate, the school dis-
trict is required to maintain the ad-
ministrative cost ratio of below. 1401
percent. Fling noted that the admin-
istrative cost ratio of the YISD is be-
low this threshold and as a result, does
not require further review or action
by the board of trustees.
Moving on to other budget items.
Fling reviewed Budget Amendments
7, 8, and 9, all of which were ap-
proved. These amendments were
necessary to reallocate funds that had
not been utilized as appropriated.
In further personnel action, Ms.
Esther Turner was rehired to teach
Homemaking on one-half day status.
Eureka Purcell was also hired as a
Yoakum Junior High Science teacher
and coach.
Upon return to Open Session and
the announcement of action in Execu-
tive Session, the Board ended their
meeting with the approval of bills and
adjournment by Matthew. The next
meeting of the Yoakum Independent
School District Board of Trustees will
be on Monday, July 14 at 6:00 p.m in
the Board Conference Room. The
public is invited to attend.

ous times will seem hopeless and
from a human perspective they cer-
tainly will be.
"For that will be a time of greater
horror than anything the world has ever
seen or will ever see again. In fact,
unless that time of calamity is short-
ened, the entire human race will be
destroyed."
Those are the words of Jesus — not
Dr Rees or any or scientist who sees
the many ways mankind can be com-
pletely destroyed in the years directly
ahead
But Christ offers hope — something
Dr. Rees sees very little of. Jesus says
those perilous times will be "shortened
— for the sake of God's chosen ones"
(Mat. 24:22). That's when Jesus will
come in the clouds from heaven.
Until then, we have the comforting
words of our Lord Jesus Christ: "And
be sure of this: 1 am with you always,
even to the end of the age” (Mat.
28:20).
