Jahnsen/Boedekerfamily
reunion
• The 41st annual Jahnsen/
Boedeker family reunion will be held
Sunday, July 27 at the American Le-
gion Hall dining room in Shiner. The
reunion will begin at 10 a.m. Dinner
will be served at 12 p.m. Admittance
charge is $2.50 per person and chil-
dren five years of age and under are

Power wheelchairs available
• The Senior Wheels USA Pro-
gram makes available power electric
wheelchairs to senior citizens (65
years old and up) and the perma-
nently disables at no cost to the re-
cipient, if they qualify. The power
wheelchairs are provided to those
who cannot walk and cannot self-pro-
pel a manual wheelchair, and who
meet the additional guidelines of he
program. No deposit is required. If
the patient's need is for use in the
home, please call for more informa-

• The Golden Crescent
Alzheimer's Disease Support Group
will meet Thursday, June 19 at 2:30
p.m. at the Golden Crescent Regional
Planning Commission, 568 Big Bend

ordinator for the Area Agency on
Flag Day at Museum
• Flag Day, June 14, will be ob-
served on Saturday, June 14at9a.m.
at the Yoakum Heritage Museum at
312 Simpson street. The soldiers
serving our Country will be honored
with a flag raising ceremony. Please
join the K.J.T. Society #13, Hoch-
heim Prairie and Hermann Sons #90
in a beautiful tribute. Other organi-
zations are encouraged to join in this
tribute to our young men. Refresh-
ments will be served.
Town Hall meeting
• Yoakum Community Hospital
is considering conversion to a Criti-
cal Access Hospital to improve its
payment from the Medicare Pro-
gram. There are implications for the
community to consider in this pro-
cess. Yoakum Community Hospital
is eager to explain the process and
hear the input of citizens before it
makes this change. You are invited
to a Town Hall meeting at the Gibson
Center on June 12 at 6 p.m. to dis-
cuss this issue.

KC golf tournament
• The Yoakum Knights of Colum-
bus will sponsor a golf tournament
for KC members and their families
on Saturday, June 14 at 8 a.m. at the
Yoakum Golf Course. The format
will be a four-person scramble. For

Health Screening Clinic
• The Cuero-DeWitt County
Health Department will be conduct-
ing a screening clinic offered to the
public on July 8 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
located at 106 N. Gonzales, Cuero.
Services provided will include Glu-
cose and Cholesterol screening for a
minimal charge of $5 each. No ap-
pointment is necessary, but please
come fasting for accurate testing re-
sults. Free hypertension screening
will also be available. Prevent Blind-
ness Texas will provide Free Vision/
Glaucoma Screenings. Acuity is
screened for near/far to determine if
corrective lenses are needed or if a
stronger prescription on current eye
wear may be needed. Client's field
of vision is screened to detect pos-“
sible blockage in their 30-degree field
of vision, which might indicate one
of he eye disease such as Glaucoma,
Cataracts, Age-Related Macular De-
generation, or Diabetic Retinoopathy.
Scholarship recipients were se-
lected from 5,927 applicants from
across the country. Selections were
based on the applicant's academic
record, FFA and other school and
community activities, supervised ag-
ricultural experience program in ag-
ricultural education, career plans and
financial need.
FFA is a national youth organiza-
tion of over 400,000 student members
preparing for leadership and careers
in the science, business and technol-
ogy of agriculture with more than
8,000 local chapters in all 50 states,
Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

ership, personal growth and career
success through agricultural educa-

Brewer receives $1,000 scholarship
The National FFA Organization
awarded a $ 1,000.00 Cargill Commu-
nity Scholarship Program scholarship
to Cody Brewer of Yoakum High
School - FFA. The Cargill Commu-
nity Scholarship Program, as a spe-
cial project of the National FFA Foun-
dation, Inc, sponsors the scholarship.
Cody plans to use the funds to pursue
a degree at Sam Houston State Uni-
versity in Huntsville.
This scholarship is one of 1,926
awarded through the National FFA
Scholarship Program this year. Cur-
rently, 153 corporate sponsors gener-
ously contribute more than $2 million
to support this program. This is the
19th year that scholarships have been
made available through the National
FFA Foundation by business and in-
dustry sponsors to reward and encour-
age excellence and enable students to
pursue their educational goals.

duct a Holy Ghost Deliverance Re-
vival. The subject of the revival will
be Prayer for the sick, faith, miracles
and healing. The dates and times are

• The Fayette County Country Mu-
sic Club will host their monthly Opry
on Monday, June 16 at the KC Hall in
La Grange. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.
and the doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

sored by the Fayette County Country
Music Club, which is dedicated to the
promotion of good country music.

CDA holds anniversary celebration
Catholic Daughters of the Ameri-
cas, Court of (>ur Lady of Guadalupe
#206 celebrated its 90th anniversary
on Sunday. June 1 at St Joseph
Church and Family Center Ceremo-
nies opened with the 10 am Mass
celebrated by Chaplain Rev Gary W
Janak.
Knights of Columbus Fourth De-
gree Assembly led the entrance pro-
cession including National Secretary
- Treasurer Libby Ramirez of Victo-
ria, State Regent Dee Scheetz of Aus-
tin, Second Vice State Regent
Carolyn Bachmann of Scotland. State
Secretary Sheila Martinka of Pasa-
dena. State Treasurer Della Santos of
Houston, area Court Officers, local
officers and members. Juniorettes and
guests.
The Family Center was decorated
with a shrine to Our Lady of
Guadalupe and St. Juan Diego, along
with colorful serapes and flowers.
