Cousins headed to Nationals
Channing Nobles is the eight-year-
old daughter of Scott and Shari
Nobles. She has been taking gymnas-
tics from Manning Gymnastics of
Victoria for four years. This is her
second year to compete in tumbling
and trampoline. She has competed in
trampoline, double-mini trampoline
and tumbling events in six competi-
tions this year earning various med-
als and awards. She competes at level
five and six.
Skyler Nobles is the 10-year-old
daughter of Charlie and Tammy
Nobles. She has been taking gymnas-
tics from Manning Gymnastics of
Victoria for six years. This is her
fourth year to compete in tumbling
and trampoline. She has competed in
trampoline, double-mini trampoline
and tumbling events in five competi-
tions this year earning various med-
als and awards. She competes at level
eight and nine.
Both Channing and Skyler have
qualified to compete at the 2001 Jr.
Olympic National Championships
which are being held in San Antonio
from June 9-16.
Bud and Doris Jean Kaiser are
Channing's grandparents. Jimmie and
Dorothy Heiman are Skyler's grand-
parents. Walter Nobles is grandfather
to both girls.
Art Expo 2001 exhibitors needed
The Lavaca Historical Museum
will present its annual art exhibition
beginning Saturday, June 23 and con-
tinuing until Friday. July 27.
Art Expo 2001 will showcase the
artistic talents of many Lavaca
County residents. Anyone living in
the county may exhibit up to three
pieces of their own artwork or items
in their possession that are the work
of Lavaca County residents.
This year's expo is a non-juried
show and all types of artistic media
will be accepted. Oils, watercolors,
gouache, charcoal, pencil, and sculp-
ture will be accepted.
Items shown in last year's art expo
are not eligible for display in the
2001 show.
Exhibitors should bring their art-
work to the museum at 413 N. Main
Street in Hallettsville on Tuesday,
June 12, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
A completed registration form by
each exhibitor should be brought to
the museum at that time. Forms are
available at the museum during regu-
lar hours, at the Minear New Era Gal-
lery at 113 S. Main Street, and at the
Backstreet Gallery at 104 Front
Street.
Special arrangements can be made
for those unable to bring their exhib-
its to the museum on June 12 by call-
ing 798-4113.

Pence; and Doris Zumwalt. Betty
Swaney is serving as artistic advisor
to the committee.

Lee Kahanek
Lee Kahanek, 87, of Victoria and
formerly of Yoakum passed away on
May 29, 2001.
He was bom in Yoakum on Nov.
13, 1913 to Louis and Annie Hmcir
Kahanek. He was a well known cattle-
man and rancher. He once owned the
livestock auction bam in Wharton. He
was also a Catholic.
Survivors include wife Pearl Harrell
Kahanek of Victoria, daughter Dorothy
Keton of Wharton, sister Stella
Fishbeck, brothers Dan Kahanek of El
Campo and Lawrence Kahanek of
Austin, six grandchildren and 12 great
grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his par-
ents, two sisters, four brothers, and son
Lee Kahanek, Jr.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on
Thursday, May 31 at the St. Joseph
Catholic Church. Presiding over the
services was Rev. Gary Janak.
Entombment followed at St.
Joseph's Catholic Mausoleum.
Pallbearers were Peter Joeckel,
Trent Joeckel, Trey Roberson, Pat
Keton, Keith Archer, Travis Kahanek,
Dennis Morgan and Syvester Fishbeck.
Memorials may be made to the
American Heart Association.
Curtis Lamar Jacobs, Sr.
Curtis Lamar Jacobs, Sr., 74, of
Yoakum passed away on May 26,
2001.
He was bom in DeWitt County on
Aug. 4, 1926 to Berthold and Sophie
Koenig Jacobs. He was a retired heavy
equipment operator for the Texas De-
partment of Transportation after 42
years of service. He served in the U.S.
Navy and was a member of the V.F. W.
and of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include daughters Tracie
Jacobs and Tana Jacobs, son Curtis Ja-
cobs, Jr, of Hochheim, sisters Dorothy
Schlenker and Ruby McNeely of Cali-
fornia and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his
parents, sister Mabel Tolbert, brothers
Claud Jacobs, Jodie Jacobs and Mike
Jacobs.
A rosary was held at 7 p.m. on Mon-
day, May 28 at the Buffington Funeral
Home.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on
Tuesday, May 29 at St. Joseph Catho-
lic Church. Presiding over the services
was Rev. Gary Janak.
Burial followed at St. Joseph
Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael Jacobs.
Donald Johnson Jr, Marshall Tolbert,
Arthur Tolbert Jr, Dennis Smith, Ron
Sevier, C.B. Jacobs and Albert Perez.
Honorary pallbearers were TxDot
retirees and employees.
Memorials may be made to the St.
Joseph School Endowment Fund.
Florence June Hol Ian
Florence June Hollan, 66, of Yoa-
kum passed away on May 30, 2001.
She was bom in Gonzales on June
24,1934 to the late Thomas Pirkle and
Grace Hahn Pirkle. She was a home-
maker and a member of Hebron Bap-
tist Church.
Survivors include husband Wayne

consolidation agreement with the Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative, Inc. (GVEC). On
