Looking Backward

After telling the story to co-workers, friends and family the response I always received was “Yep
you will never see that wallet again. ” When I told everyone I received it from you in the mail with
everything still there, including the $80 in cash, it was a complete shock to them. This seeming
small act has given so many people a chance to see that there are still great people in the world
that will not only do the right thing for no other reason than it is the right thing to do but go above
and beyond for a complete stranger.
Narrator will be Richard Hetzel and Robert Lowe will be sound technician. Soloist are Nancy Lowry,
Larry Thompson, and Dixie Bible.
Thank you so much! I lost my wallet at the Prickly Pear Food and Wine Festival and just knew I
would never see it again. Then it shows up in the mail - with everything still there! It was such
a wonderful surprise. If you could please let whomever turned it in know how very grateful I am.
A word from Maureen:
Lets start here: Like my daughter Pam Gasper, I think Thanksgiving is my
favorite holiday. Not too much expected from us...unless you're the host-
ess of a large meal with all the family coming. I prefer to focus on my
own thankfulness, even making lists. We have a week off from Good
News Club since there is no meeting at the church, ..(Immanuel) this
week.
We were in for a surprise,(actually, not) with the Mercury dropping to 26
degrees this Sunday morning. Even my N.H. Friend had a 36 on her ther-
mometer.
Our precious daughter, Viv just returned from Nicaragua and declares her
outlook is so changed after coming from a country where the people have
nothing. And guess what! They are happy, one 50 year old woman made
her first ever doll. She was thrilled! Prayers for Viv, she picked up some
kind of bug and is struggling with it. Hasn't dampened her spirit though.
It has been a quiet week out here. I like the cooler weather but can do
without the wind. First freeze last night and I had the outside faucets
wrapped up and covered.
Oh, the guys came to install our new carport on last Wednesday. The girl
in Waco said Friday so that was a bit of a surprise. They arrived at 5:00
pm. Told them that there wasn’t enough time to do this in the daylight but
they started up anyway. It was dark by 5:45 and I was out turning on
porch lights and carried one stand up reading light out to let them finish
up. The gravel that I had ordered to cover the “floor” was delivered Wed
morning. That worked out as they could not have backed up that dump
truck under the carport. Two guys were all that came and they were work-
ing like beavers to put it up the carport. So, now all I need to do is finish
spreading the gravel out. The wind was too much yesterday to attempt it.
I'll leave you with a song we sing in Good News Club,
Thanksgiving's Here"!
The Smith triplets are growing right along. They are now Miles 3 lb 11
oz, Madelyn 3 lb 6 oz, Mary Kate 2 lb 11 oz. They might make 5 lbs by
Christmas. Miles and Madelyn are big enough to bath three times a week.
Our friend, Jill, in Ballinger, has a new baby girl. Her name is Aaliyah,
like the singer.
We go to the massage lady at Serinity Day Spa every chance we get and
that seems to make a lot of difference.
On Friday, our neighbor Ann Mount did the last of the packing and load-
ing up and moved on. She now lives in Muleshoe and is closer to her two
sons and grandson. When the new owner gets here we will introduce him.
I wish all our readers a blessed week and absolutely no one has to observe
Black Friday, well unless you really want to.
Congratulations again this week to the Coleman High School
Bluecat Varsity Football team on their area win over Cisco 34
to 27. The Bluecats will play their thirteenth game of the sea-
son on Friday. There have been a number of times Coleman
teams have played twelve games, but this will be only the third
time Coleman will have played thirteen games.

cation classes are not taught in school today as they were at that
time. The picture shows a driver education course car for use
at Coleman High School which was made available in
September 1953 by Taylor Motor Company at no cost to the
school. Shown with the car, at left is F. W. Taylor, Jr., in the
car is a student, Elizabeth Smith, and to the right is instructor
Hurschel Dunn. Twenty-eight students completed the course
in the 1952-53 school year and it is expected that thirty-two
would complete the course in the 1953-54 school year. Dunn
spent eight years with the State Highway Patrol prior to accept-
ing the job in the city schools.

About that double overtime ... As far as I know, the Bluecats
had previously played only one double overtime. It was actu-
ally a TRIPLE overtime, against Haskell in a for the bi-district
championship in 2006. The real heart thumper in that game
was at the end of regular play, as Coleman scored twice and
Haskell once during the last four minutes. Coleman won that
game 48 to 42. In the past, regular season high school football
games sometimes ended in a tie game. Looking at more recent
times, in 1982, Coleman played to a 14 to 14 tie against Burnet.
By the way, Coleman defeated Abilene Wylie that year, 60 to 0
in Coleman’s homecoming game. The last time Coleman
played to a tie ending was in 1988 against Breckenridge, end-
ing 7 to 7. The tie game rule must have ended between 1988
and 1998.

In 1998, Coleman played one overtime in the last game of dis-
trict play against Winters (20 to 23) followed by the bi-district
game against Troy (29 to 36). Both games were lost by
Coleman. In 1999, Coleman went into overtime in a district
game against Bangs, defeating Bangs 20 to 17. The only other
overtime game I find in the records through the 2009 season,
was in 2005 when Coleman lost to Wall, 21 to 20 in a non-dis-
trict game. So last Friday night was only the sixth overtime
game Coleman has played.
