Here we are moving right on
into the middle of October and
we are still having summer
weather. One Blessing is the
evenings and mornings are
pleasant. The weather man says
we are in for some storms. We
really don’t need that with so
much pretty cotton in the fields.
Football, volleyball and cross
country is keeping lots of folks
going strong.
The Old Glory Senior Citizens
Dance was well attended on
Thursday evening and everyone
had 41 great time. We appreciate
Herman Hearn and his band for
the great music they provide.
We were glad to have Dickie
Greenwood back with the band
and also glad to have Jessie
Sanchez playing with the band
in the absence of our regular
drummer. Ron. who had to have
heart surgery. We wish Ron
well. Winning the door prizes
were Farris Letz of Old Glory
and Charles Carr from Jayton.
We certainly do appreciate all
the folks that come out and sup-
port our center.
Several from this community
attended the baby shower hon-
oring Parker Smith, son of
Brandon and Erica Smith of
Abilene, grandson of Randy and
Diane Smith and great grand-
son of Lewis and Verlene

was held in the fellowship hall
of the Faith Lutheran Church
in Sagerton. Hostesses for the
gala were Brenda Vahlenkamp,
Lou Cozine. Carmella Letz.
Nancy Vahlenkamp and Amber

prised to see their face in a

you might be looking at.
I went on the Northern Jones
County Historical Tour last
week. There were 20 or so in
the group and it was very en-
joyable way to leant more about
our past.
The museum had a nice do-
nation from the W. A. Bill Tipton
family. We were given T Bar T
Branding Iron, very old horse
hoof trimmers and a large rail-
road pad lock. We appreciate
these items and they will be on
display when or where we end
up for a museum location.
The museum board met last
week and the officers for 2007-
2008 are Chairman Dennis
Braden, Vice Chairman Tena
Tankersley. Secretary Betty
McDougal and Membership Phil
Swenson. The board all wish
to express our appreciation to
out going members Wilbur Wil-

Nancy West and to welcome
Don Haynes and Phil Swenson
to the museum board. Thank
you each for all your time and

Boxes, boxes everywhere. I
keep telling myself I can do this.
But the more I pack the more I
am looking for pictures or some
item. The more lost the cause
seems. Not 1 am there fussing

The picture of the Termites
Climbers Class form St. Johns
Methodist Church was made in
1952. I am told that the place
the Climbers used to build their
climbing skills was the Bell
Tower at the Methodist
Church. The picture was taken
out at Buie Park where the
group went on their social out-
ings. Names given so far are Bill
Longley, Buck Elliott. Billy
Hewitt, Ora Dell (she was not
a Rector at this time) and Ruley
Lee Hughes. We still need sev-
eral names. Tommie Rector
took this picture. I would like
to know who the lady in the
head wrap and sweater is. They
look like a fun group.
I am so sorry for all the prob-
lems in your museum and the
fact we are closed for a while.
We have all worked so hard to
gather and display the items in
the museum. I was asked to do
a Homecoming tour last week-

There is a parable in Matthew
25 about 10 women, more than
likely young women. They are
waiting for the bridegroom to
get back so that they can meet
him. He is delayed. Things do
not go as planned. The ship
does not come in in a timely
fashion. They all have lamps,
but only five have brought ex-
tra oil in case things do not go
as scheduled. Life often does
not go as scheduled whether we
are waiting for Jesus to come
or for some other event to
come about in our lives. The
oil that each has brought is not
something that is to be shared.
The women who brought ex-
tra are still not sure that they
have enough even though they
have heard it announced that the
bridegroom has come. It is still
not clear how quickly he is com-
ing. At what moment will they
see him? Will he stop and visit
with someone- else for a while

some hopes and dreams come

ahead of schedule according to
our earthly desires and that other
hopes and dreams get delayed.
Part of the oil for the lamp that
keeps our light burning clear and
focused are the precepts of the
Lord. What are precepts? When
I was at Luther Seminary we
had small breakout groups from
each class called precepts
where we would learn to be-
come conversant in various as-
pects of our Christian faith.
According to Webster's 7'h Col-
legiate Dictionary a precept is a
“command or principle intended
as a general rule of action."
Psalm 111:7 states that the pre-
cepts of the Lord are trustwor-
thy. God's commands or orders
are trustworthy. Commanders
or officers are commissioned.
Likewise our young adults are
commissioned to go and study,
go and team, go and work.JJfe-

one in need of an encouraging
conversation just beyond their
line of sight. Maybe that con-
versation will take a while. One
never knows.
It is not always clear why

Bethel Ericksdahl youth gath-
ered for Luther League at the
home of Wayland and Connie
Shurley the first Sunday
evening of this month. Over the
years folks of all ages have come
along for Luther League. The
focus is on the youth as one
generation amidst the genera-
tions which range from the lat-
est generation of infants and
toddlers and early grades
through youth and parents and
grandparents and beyond. The
crowd may not be as big. but
the conversation is still good and
thought-provoking. The con-
versation amongst the adults
who included parents and
teachers turned to beginning life
as a college student and how to
be prepared for that. Our com-
munity and the community as
a whole has just sent off a
bunch of young adults to start
college and jobs and so forth.
