after a long and valiant strug-
gle with leukemia. Throughout
the 17 year struggle she main-
tained her positive outlook
and well developed, entertain-
ing sense of humor. She also
continued to spend a signifi-
cant amount of her time mak-
ing the lives of her family,
friends and coworkers easier
and more rewarding. Her.
strong faith grew even

throughout her life, she pro-
vided as well as received won-
derful support from her faith,
her family and her friends dur-
ing these most difficult last 3
months.
She is survived by her lov-
ing husband of 35 years, Joel

be deeply missed by all.
Susan was born in Houston,
Texas in 1949 to Mr. and Mrs,
Leonard A. Derden and moved
with her family to Baytown,
Texas in 1959. She graduated
from Robert E. Lee HS in
Baytown in 1967. Susan grad-
uated with a Bachelor’s
Degree in Education from the
University of Texas in 1971
and immediately began work-
ing in Austin to help put her
husband through graduate
school. She employed her
wonderful people skills, cre-
ative talents and exceptional
work ethic over the past 36
years to become highly Suc-
cessful in careers in the teach-
ing field as an account execu-
and'most recently in high rise
management.
