among the cities that already
use the site for their auctions.
He said while a physical
auction might draw 100-150,
an online auction sees thou-
sands of hits every day.
The online auction has
already matched at least 30
percent of the total profit from
last year’s auction at Stallworth
Stadium.
But the Rene Bates

differently from commonly
used sites like eBay.

Baytown’s Purchasing
Manager, Drew Potts, said
putting on an auction required
paying employees to move
items to Stallworth Stadium,
run the auction and then dis-
card unsold or unclaimed
property.
Potts said the move to the
online arena will eliminate
these costs and is simply “the
way of the future.”
He said the city would prob-
ably save thousands by taking
this avenue.
The City will also be able to
hold an auction more than
once a year and attract bidders
from all over the world.
