The eerie episode that lasted
' two days recently actually began
17 months before. I’d done this
riveting health care column on a I
product called Boudreaux’s Butt
Paste. Little did I know.
For honesty’s sake, let me
plainly state that when I did the
column, Sun Publisher Wanda
Cash — a woman 1 consider a
top-flight journalist, and not
because she signs my paycheck
— sort of rolled her eyes and
said I had set a record, in one
story, for the use of a four-letter
word that, in proper society,
means derriere. (Or “heinie” on
Wall Street.)
1 openly point this but
because today’s captivating litur-
gy is about how Boudreaux’s
Butt Paste suddenly descended
upon my life again —- like twice
in 24 hours and from two differ-
ent parts of the planet. And
because Wanda wasn’t smiling
when she referred to my
“record.”
Thusly, instead of using the
term Boudreaux’s Butt Paste
again repeatedly. I’m going to
ask you, the Discerning Reader,
to understand what I’m talking
about when I use the abbrevia-
tion “BBP.” Mentally, you can
do it. Plus when you see BBP
feel free to insert your own Tom
DeLay or Robert Byrd jokes.
This began anew when I
needed guidance about a prod-
uct (S.T..37) I had ordered at
Walgreens right here in Channel
City. I was having a problem
and needed to speak personally
to a true drug professional.
It dawned on me that I had
dealt with a Walgreens assistant
manager back in September ‘03
when I did the first BBP health
care column. This was after 1
apparently caught Tanisha
Tatum, a pharmacy technician,
off-guard by boldly entering the
store and ordering a tube of
BBP. n
Tan sha managed to contain
herself somewhat (meaning she
only snickered a little) before
turning me over to one of the
bosses, a young man named
Travis Huffman. Travis
answered all my BBP questions.
But in my latest dilemma I
couldn’t remember Travis’ offi-
cial name. So I dug through my
archives, a cardboard box in the
garage, and found the BBP col-
umn I’d done back in ‘03.
Name now in hand, I phoned
Travis and identified myself as
the dude who did the BBP
piece. He remembered.
Honestly, I hadn’t thought of
BBP in most of the previous 17
months. But the drama, strange-
ly, was to continue.
The next day — the next day,
mind you — 1 received a call
from Becky Eckertnan, a long-
time Goose Creek teacher and
friend who now lives in
Coldspring. (For purposes of
. full disclosure, be it known that
Becky worked some at The Sun
when 1 was the paper’s powerful
managing editor.)
"Jimbo!” she exclaimed over
the wireless, “I thought of you
today. Did you know that BBP
is now sponsoring a car in
NASCAR? I heard‘BBP’and
immediately saw your face.”
(BBP is sponsoring a Busch
Series car driven by Kim
Crosby, the onetime principal at
Slidell, La., Junior High. And
she looks nice, tod. Probably the
BBP.)
I certify that the above is tnje.
• and at least 95 percent accurate,
so help me George Boudreaux,
the inventor of what I’m now
calling BBP
I also hope that Publisher
■Wanda took note that I used far
greater civility in this story than
I did in the original BBP col-
umn 17 months ago. when,
admittedly, I was less mature
than 1 claim to be today.
