David Lindahl has spent 30
years in the driver’s seat, and can
attest to the difficulty of being
behind the wheel of a commercial
motor vehicle in less than ideal
driving conditions.
Lindahl, a driver for Mercer
Transportation, has learned to
maneuver his vehicle through
hazards on the highway. But he
admits the right-hand turn from
the Interstate-10 feeder onto
Thompson Road can be “tricky,”
even if you know what you’re
doing.
Lindahl doesn’t come through
the area all that often. But when
he does, his truck can be found

If not for the battle for Cedar

Sammy Mahan, 57, may not have
elected to run for a third term.
“I was unsure,” Mahan said of fil-

easy or fun. Mahan has not missed a

SPECIAL TO THE SUN
The Baytown Symphony Orchestra
gala will be held at The Goose Creek
Country Club on Saturday, and the
evening’s festivities are promising.
From an auction to wandering
musicians and comedians, those who
attend will find a thoroughly enjoy-
able time, and will also know that
they are benefiting one of the most
prevalent and well-known cultural
entities in the Baytown area.

Annexations approved by Baytown
City Council could bring an apartment
complex, shopping strip and mini stor-
age facility into the city.
Council members heard the first
annexation at 5123 Garth Road at their
regular meeting Thursday.
City officials were asked to annex
the 4.88-acre tract of land in the mid-
dle of Garth Road and Lynchburg
Cedar Bayou Road, (where Garth Road
Baptist Church used to be), into the
city for development purposes.
“The development is being done for
retail and restaurants,” deputy city
manager Bob Leiper said.
The front portion of the site, (about
one-third of the property), already falls
within the city limits. And developers
would like the remaining two-thirds to
be annexed so the property can become
a retail center.
Council was unanimously in favor of
brining the land into the city.
Council also approved the annexa-
tion of 28.79 acres of property north of
Interstate 10 at the intersection of
Decker Drive and east of Crosby
Lynchburg Road.
