Houston and Baytown. When
Dixon took office, the town
had a population of about
2,500. Today, it is coming
close to doubling that figure.
“We’ve had huge growth,
and there’s a reason for that,”
Dixon said. “People are mov-
ing out of Houston for lower
taxes. This side of the county
is conservative and people are
looking for a place with low
taxes and good schools, and
we have both. It’s a nice small
town, but with Houston near-
by, we have anything that we
need.”
The City of Mont Belvieu
has reached its goal of achiev-

operating expenses that could
last up to six months in the
event of an emergency - and
creating a fixed asset replace-

run against Dixon in the May

people to file for the election
is March 10. Those interested

“Coleman Godwin is definite-

to follow in his footsteps.”
Mahan, having attended sev-
eral Council meetings and
noticing the advantage of
“being on the inside,” ran his
first campaign with a platform
of fixing Kilgore Road and
demolishing Taft Circle.
Mahan won that year by 58
percent. Now, four years later,
he’s accomplished half of his
original goal and has a dead-
line for what remains.
It’s the councilman’s hope
that new homes will eventual-
ly be built on the land where
Taft Circle once stood. ______
