the physical description is dif-
ferent. they believe there is a
connection based on the initial

“(I) am devastated about Mildred
Rosamond being on the church bus.
She was a dear, dear friend,” Orton

Rosamond worked at The Sun

There was flooding reported
around the Interstate 10 and North
Main intersection.
Et. Steve Dorris. Baytown police
spokesman, said that they received
a total of 10 calls needing assistance
due to the flooding. While most of
the calls were vehicles stranded be-
cause of the floods, there was one
report of a house being flooded on
Booker Street near North Highway
146 in the Lincoln Cedar neighbor-
hood.
Dorris added that they received
calls about the Garth and Cedar
Bayou Lynchburg intersection, but
most concerned incidents occurred
along Main Street.
“We got anywhere from 3 to 4
inches of rain in about an hour," Jett
said. “That was the highest amount
in Harris County. We flooded in the
usual spots and a few others."
Chambers County Fire Marshal
Ryan Holzaepfel said there were re-
ports of a tornado on the west side
of Chambers County near Bay town.
“There was damage in some of
those areas to trees and power poles

caps ensuring that only low-income families are eligi-

of their family's income.
After hours of debate, the revised version passed 18-

It now heads to the state House, which is also Repub-
lican-majority but is far warier of vouchers. So-called
“school choice” has long been defeated by Democrats

Texas Senate approves scaled-back voucher plan
AUSTIN (AP) — The Texas Senate on Thursday
approved a major voucher plan offering stale funding
io children attending private and religious schools —
but only after slashing its potential cost by limiting the
number of eligible families and exempting rural areas,
which opponents argue can least afford losing students.
Sen. Larry Tay lor's bill creates publicly sponsored
education savings accounts for parents while offering
tax credits to businesses that sponsor private schooling
via donations. It appeared stalled before the Republican
from Friendswood agreed to make wholesale changes.
“Our public schools have all the incumbency advan-
tages. They have the facilities, they have the activities
and. frankly, for many places, it's the center of the
town's activities." Taylor said Tuesday. “But there are
some students in those schools that that's not the best

“However, CenterPoint Energy
met our crews and those were re-
stored pretty quickly." Jett said.
“Also, all intersections were re-
opened. with most reopening pretty
quickly."
Jett added that there were five
downed tree calls as well.
Another storm is expected to
hit the area late Saturday as a
slow-moving system moves into
southeast Texas.
