.Appreciate LC board
In Friday's front page story “Bond Projects finished on
time,” it's refreshing to see a story about 1 ee College de-
livering on their promises and within budget In so many
news stories today, we see case after case of incompe-
tence, corruption and mismanagement of public funds so
it’s heartening to see a local government entity being so
transparent and responsible to its citizens. Only a local
paper like the Bay town Sun prints stories like this as all
the national media is chasing today \ scandal I appreciate
our Lee College board for being the standard that other
government agencies ought to follow
Knee-jerk reactions
In the Oct. 5 issue of The Bay tow n Sun. a Letter to the
Editor appeared: “Jesus would not be packing.”
The writer could be right about Jesus, since he had un-
told power being the son oft iod The rest of us aren't that
fortunate, but fortunately we do have the Second Xmend-
ment that allows us to be able to defend ourselves in a life
threatening situation.
In regards to the other suggestions made. 1 have to call
a time out. There aren't any recommendations made that
could have stopped the shooting in Las Vegas and knee
jerk reactions accomplish nothing. 1 he letter claim- there
is a shortage of laws that limit proliferation ot assault
rifles, if you really knew what an assault rifle was you
couldn’t make such a statement. Assault rifles are made
and used for the military and haxe the capabilities of be-
ing made fully automatic with the flip of a switch. The
rifles that many call assault rifles are just semi automatic
rifles that many people mistake as being militarized. An-
other false claim in the letter is the “gun show loophole.'
there is no gun show loophole. This term was coined and
proliferated by anti-gun people. It is based on a myth that
ail gun dealers at gun shows are federally licensed gun
dealers; they usually are not. Hie dealers that have an II I
must do a background check but a private dealer that has
a table and selling his personal weapons does not have to
do a background check. This was the loophole that really
wasn't. I nless the laws have changed recently the unli-
censed dealer selling at a gun show was no different than
selling to his next door neighbor.

Re Passed Oxer - Again - for
Homeland Security Chief
Dear Congressman Mc( aul.
We understand you’re probably
disappointed that Donald Frump, for
a second time, passed on appointing
y ou to head up the IX'partment of
Homeland Security in his cabinet.
However, though it may haxe hurt
your feelings, you dodged a bullet,
i he president did you a big favor.
As chair of the House Homeland
security Committee, you're certain-
ly qualified for the job which sets
you apart from some Frump cabinet in the world would probably under-

mer congressional colleagues.
