Deputies arrest
burglary suspect
Members of the Panola
County Sheriff’s Office
responded to a call of a
burglary in progress
Tuesday, September 30,
2008, when a neighbor
noticed a man leaving a
family member’s home.
According to the
report, the homeowner’s
cousin called the Sheriff's
Office when he saw the
suspect coming out of the
back door. The man, who
was reportedly wearing
blue jeans and a red T-
shirt with a black tank top,
left the residence in a teal
colored vehicle.
Panola County
Sheriff’s Office
Lieutenant Joe Mims
responded to the home,
which had been burglar-
ized, along with Panola
County Constable Kevin
Lake. Upon their arrival at
the residence, they discov-
ered the burglar had
gained entry into the
home by prying the front
door open. The pry marks
were photographed as evi-
dence.
Other deputies who
were patrolling the area to
locate the suspect’s vehi-
cle made contact with a

Department Officer had to help them manipulate their way through the Square and out Hwy 59 N. CPD Officers had to divert traffic, while the oversized load
came through the Square backwards.
Panola County economy is still thriving
Congress passed a bill
Friday, October 3, 2008 to
try to get the economy
back on track in the
United States. Large
financial institutions and
large insurance companies
are failing. Bad loans and
bad investments, accord-
ing to the experts, have
put us in a vulnerable situ-
ation. This is not the case
for our local banks.
According to Lynn
Vincent President of First
State Bank, local banks
and Texas Banks are in
great financial shape. “We
are making loans just as
we always have.” Vincent
said. Warren Biggs
Chairman of Panola
National Bank said that
local banks did not get
involved in the packaging
and selling of loans to
investors that the large
mortgage companies were
doing to create more
money to loan. Local
banks make loans and
keep them at home. Local
banks also try to make
good loans. They try to
work with customers to do
what is best for the bank
and the individual. Some
of our local bankers do
believe that Congress does
need to pass something to
get our economy going
especially in the north
eastern part of the United
States because they were
the hardest hit. They need
to prevent an unrecover-
able stock value decline
because so many of our
local people are affected
with failing retirement
plans. If you are retired or
planning to retire these
investment programs are
affected. Panola County is
very blessed with a good
economy because of the
oil and gas production.
These jobs are good for
everyone creating good
pay for our local econo-
my.” said Biggs. James
Browning Vice President
and Branch Manager for
Farmers State Bank said,
“Texas has always had a
buffer between us and the
rest of the country
because of our economy
and our real estate mar-
kets. Panola County also
has a buffer from the rest
of Texas because of our
economy.”
