TEXAS SCHOOLBOY BARRIS RATINGS
on runs of 43, four and 47 to
hold them at bay.
The Bearcats will host
Cushing in their next outing
Friday at 7:30.
The Bearcats dropped a 24-
14 decision to West Rusk in
their opener last week and
will come into this outing a
slight underdog, no doubt.
rushed for 310 yards and
touchdowns of two, 21, five
and 28 yards.
Problem was, Adams (6-1,
175, 4.5) brought a bit more
versatility to the show and
closed with 288 yards rushing
and six tallies. He also had a
19-yard pass from junior
classmate, QB Seth Hubbard,
who kept the Lions’ defenders
on the heels trying to stop run
and pass.
Hubbard was seven of 16
for 117 yards as the Bearcats
amassed 445 total offense.
It was the season opener
for Bearcat bossman Donald
Hubbard, who was very
pleased with everything
except his defense.
“We were at the right place
most of the time, we just did-
n’t make the tackle. Their kid
(Riddens) was a load. He runs
very hard and when you tack-
le him, you’ve got to wrap
him up. We’ll have to work
more on that. He broke a lot
of times when we thought we
had him.”
Beckville fumbled the ball
away three times in the early
going of the first quarter and
eventually fell behind, 6-0.
Adams scored on runs one,
70 and. 80 yards in the second
period and put the Bearcats in
a positive 22-6 position
before the stunned visitors
could regroup.
By halftime they were
down just 22-14 and in the
third quarter they pulled even.
A pass interception and 20-
yard touchdown return by
Josh Jenks broke the Lions
back just when they were
gaining momentum.
They stayed around to the
bitter finish, but Adams
would score three more times
