were present at the end here
and accompanied the remains to
Gainesville the following mem
bers of his immediate family, be
sides other near relatives: Mrs.
J. T. Rowland of Nocona, his
second wife; his sons, W. D.
Rowland of Gainesville; R. L
Rowland of Denton; J. M. Row
land of Spur, Texas; and J. W.
Rowland of Pomona, California.
Capt. J. T. Rowland’s life has
been a benediction and a blessing
to those who knew him. I
country loses a pioneer, soldier,
statesman, patriot and citizen by
his death that cannot be filled by
any other. But our loss in this
world of toil and strife is only
the gain of peace and rest for a
venerable soul that passed on
when its tenement of clay reach,
ed a fiuai dissolution.. Going to
preciatlve audience in the inter-
est of Col. Thomas H. Ball, can-
didate for goveanor. Dr. Brooks
discussed the issues clearly and
logically. Compared the declar-)
ations and platforms of the rival
candidates with that degree of
analysis that only a brilliant edu- j
cator could give. His terrific ar. |
raingement of Banker Jim Fer i".*
guson for his careless regard of
the use .of language, his disre.
gard of facts, his disregard of his
neighbors, business partners,
clients at law, and for his disre-
gard of the State law relating Co
usury was so true that denial has
never been made. Dr Brooks
explained bow fraudulent voting
was accomplished and how it
would be counted for Jim Fergu-
son, whether be had knowledge
or his consent was given or not.
How these f rad u lent voters had
to be overcome by the votes of
white Americans. He explained
how these would be voted for
Ferguson in spite of bis protesta-
tions to the contrary, which Fer
guson has never yet condemned.
Dr. Brooks address, was able,
brilliant and convincing, touching
practically every issue of the
campaign as well as the numer-
ous canards of this* prehaps the
bitterest campaign ever fought
out in Texas. He had a large au-
dience, the Electric Theatre be
