Since arriving in the “Med,”

Returns To Station
IKS RANGER (FHTNC) Aug.
9 — Airman Apprentice Les-
lie R. Bailey, USN, son of Mrs.
Hazel Bailey of Route 1, Mon-
tague, has returned to the Naval
Air Station, Alameda, Calif, fol-
lowing three weeks of refresher
training in waters near San
Diego, as a crewmember aboard
the attack aircraft carrier USS
Ranger.
During training, the 75,000
ton carrier underwent intensive
damage control, engineering,
flight deck, navigational and
departmental drills. General
Quarters, man-over-board, and
nuclear, biological and chem-
ical warfare drills were also
included in the training.
To complete the trainingper-
iod, the Ranger conducted a
complicated battle problem
simulating war time conditions.
Upon completion of the train-
ing exercises, the Ranger was
officially labeled “battle
ready” and will continue pre-
parations for her next deploy-
ment to the Seventh Fleet
the Western Pacific.

—Army Private John F. Wom-
ack, 21, whose parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Floyd L. V. Womack,
and wife, Linda, live on Route
1, Nocona, completed eight
weeks of advanced infantry
training Aug. 10 at Ft. Ord,
Calif.
He received specialized in-
struction in small unit tactics
and in firing such weapons as
the M-14 rifle, the M-60
machine gun and the 3.5-lnch
rocket launcher.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday at 3 p. m. in Scott
Bros. Chapel for Harrison Glen
Rolls of 201 Young St. Rev.
Hoyt Hutson and Rev. Roy San-
ders were officiating ministers.
Burial was in Nocona Ceme-
tery under the direction of Scott
Bros.
Pallbearers were Edison
Waldrlp, Roy Hillard, Wilton
Underwood, Glen Molsbee,
Charlie Burnett and Clayton
Menasco.
Mr. Rolls died in Gaines-
ville Memorial Hospital Mon-
day, August 21 at 3 p. m. fol-
lowing a nine-day illness. He
was born in Montague County
December 28, 1899, and was
married in Henrietta January
23, 1923 to Miss Annie Vowell.
He was a member of First
Baptist Church.
Well - known in the com-
-munity, Mr. Rolls, retired, had
engaged in all types of work
as a handy man. He served
as custodian of the F&M Bank
at one time.
Survivors include his wife;
one son, L. C. Rolls, of Dun-
l can, Oklahoma; three sisters,
Mrs. R. P. Black and Mrs.
Mamie Cox of Nocona and Mrs.

of San Diego, California and
two grandchildren.

course at the Army Southeas-
tern Signal School, Ft. Gordon,
Ga., Aug. 11.
During his 19 weeks of train-
ing, he was trained to install,
service and repair Army tele-
type sets.

Flake Clay Is
Severely Burned
In Explosion
Word was received here
the injury of Flake Clay in a
pipe explosion August 14 at Ker-
ens, Texas where he is em-
ployed with Lone Star Gas Com-
pany. When the pipe burst, he
was covered with steam and
severely burned. Third degree
and lesser burns were on his
face, arms, legs and other parts
of his body. Skin grafting may
have to be done on his arms.
Mr. Clay is in Kerens Hos-
pital, Room 2.
Sunday he was visited by his
sisters, Mrs. Felix Brookmole,
Mrs. Daisy Eldred, Mrs. Bonnie'
Morgan and son, David Mor-
gan, and Mrs. Glenn Molsbee,
all of Nocona, Mrs. Reuben
Morgan of Wichita Falls and.
Mrs. Connie Myers of Fort I1
Worth.
