District 12-AAA basketball
team have been named to the
Mi-District roundball roster.
Frank Johnstone. Chuek
Walker, and Gary Wall of Al-
vin won positions on the first
team, along with La Marque
Lincoln's Robert Wilson and
Dickinson's Jimmy Bimmage.
La Porte High School senior
Mike Blackwell was named
Most Valuable Player in Dis-
trict 12-AAA.
Making up the second team
Mike Kacz walked off with
most of the laurels for the
Yellowjacket track team last
Saturday at the Sweeny Relays
when he took a couple of first
place medals.
His first place finishes were
in the 120 yard high hurdles in
a time of 15.2 and in the 330
yard intermediate hurdles in a
time of 40.6.
In addition to these two
shows. Kacz teamed with Kent
Wald rep. Dave Lewis and
Johnny Snider to take a third
place spot in the Mile Relay
in three minutes, 27.8seconds.
Wald rep stepped out of the re-
lay long enough to take a tin rd
place finish in the 220 yard
dash in 22,6.
James Coates took second in
the broad jump with a leap of
20 feet, eight and three quar-
ter inches.

swimming team, coached by
Frank Shotwell, rounded out
its first competitive season
participating in the District
24-AAAA meet Feb. 27 in
Clear Creek and the regional
contest 7 at San Jacinto Col-
lege in Pasadena.
District - 9 pt.
In the district Team Re-
sults, Clear Creek led with a
score of 412 points, followed
by Freeport Brazoswood with
229, Brazosport 175, Alvin
121, Galveston Ball 106 and
Texas City 95 points.

son. Rusty Ruble, Maben Yount
and Paul Ku rfman placed sixth
with a time of 2:41.8.
In the 200-yard freestyle-
Mike Mahoney placed ninth
with a time of 2:51.1 and
Daniel Early placed twelfth
with a time of 2:24.8.
In the 200-yard individual
medley-Gerry Hagood placed
seventh with a time of 2:34.0;

seventh inning and then
clubbed four runs in rtie eighth
to card a 9-5 victory over
Clear Creek in a high school
baseball game last week at
Clear Creek.
Clear Creek got off to a one-
run lead in the first inning and
then saw the game tied in the
top of the second. Tlie Wild-
cats retook the lead in the
bottom of the second with four
runs, two of which came on
Paul White's two-run homer.
Jim Stevens homered for
Alvin in the second, and Char-
lie Goodson hit a two-run
homer for the visiting Yellow
Jackets in the eighth.

placed seventh and eighth, re-
spectively, in the 400-yard
freestyle. White's time was
4:55.1 and Erskine’s time was
4:55.6.
Gordon Mutchler placed
eighth in the 100-yard breast-
stroke with a time of 1:20.3.
The team of Yount, Greg
Kurfman, Thompson andRuble
placed sixth in the 400-yard
freestyle relay with a time of
4:58.1.
In the one-meter diving
competition, Hagood placed
fourth scoring 179.80 points.
White took seventh place with
147.20 points and Eppersor
took ninth place with a total
point score of 132.70.

Alvin and Brazosport high
schools each accumulated 10
points to place fifth in overall
team standings at regional
competition. Clear Creek cop-
ped first with 166po:nts, Bry-
an A&M Consolidated, second;
Deer Park, thi rd; Brazos-
wood. fourth.
In the boys'standings. Alvin
tied with Pasadena Doby for a
ninth place berth. Houston
Memorial came out on top
with 161 1/2 points; Clear
Creek, second; Brazoswood,
third; Deer Park, fourth.
Individual swimmers from
Alvin placing in the top six
positions were:
Lee Anne Underwood-third
in 200-yard individual medley
with a time of 304.7, and third
in 100-yard backstroke timed
at 121.6.
Gerry Hagood- fourth in
one-meter diving, 233.25.
Christina Collins-sixth in
200-yard freestyle, time 247.
1. and sixth in 400-yard free-
style at 426.0.
Georganna Collins, sixth in
100-yard breastroke at 132.4.
The Alvin team competed a-
gainst all 4A schools this past
year.
