must provide your own tricy-

Who is the fastest baby in
town? To determine this a baby
derby will be held on the City
Square at 10:30 a.m.
Babies will walk or crawl ap-
proximately 20 feet from one
adult to another. There will be
four categories of entrants: 6-9
month old crawlers, 9-12 month
old crawlers, 9-12 month old
walkers and 12-18 month old
walkers. Ribbons will be given
to 1st and 2nd places in each
division.
There is no entry fee.
Currently there are twelve
arts and crafts booths regis-
tered, food booths “galore”,
bake sales, a dunking booth,
Pie throwing booth, a water-
melon booth with seed spitting
contest, horseshoe pitching and
a domino tournament sched-
uled for the square. A knife
show will be held during the
day also.

event, call the Chamber of
Commerce office at 915-773-

The Chamber of Commerce
will hold an Antique Car Show
in conjunction with the Country
Fair. Entry fee will be $15 per
car and trophies will be given in
the first three places. Entries
must be in by August 27 (today)
at 4:30 p.m.

Chamber of Commerce at P.O.
Box 1206, Stamford, Texas
79553.
The Chamber also will have
food judging and show during
the fair. To enter bring entry
form from newspaper or pick
one up at the Chamber office.
Must have entry for each pro-
duct. Entries must be in be-
tween 9 and 10 a.m. on Satur-
day. Bring completed form and
entry to Country Fair Food
Show and booth.

Stamford will be filled Satur-
day with booths and activities
for all ages as the first Country
Fair comes to town. Chamber
Manager Denise Underwood
spotlighted some of the festivi-
ties taking place:

be bringing their trained dogs
to town. Come and see how
smart and intelligent dogs real-
ly are.
“If you don’t know what a
Cow Potty is, come Saturday
and find out.
“Don’t forget about the draw-
ing to Cancun and the Dallas

As activities were winding
down Saturday night, Outta
Grass Cattle Company won the
title at the Ranch Rodeo. The
Bar S Ranch team placed sec-
ond and Hendricks River
Ranch took third.
The winning team was com-
posed of Iky Akers, Bob Mc-
Clary, Larry Guy and Steve
Goldsmith.
Bar S contestants were Glenn
Springer, Mike Jones, Monty
Jones and Buck Blackwell.
Hendricks team members were
Bruce Ford, Gene Vickers,
Sammy Cockerell and Dudley
Cockerell.
. Teams competed in saddle
bronc riding, team branding,
double mugging, team roping,
Stamford contestants proved
to be big winners during the
29th annual Jones County Fair
last weekend in Anson.
Melody Crenshaw, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. James Cren-
shaw, was chosen at the 1987
Jones County Cotton Queen.
Brenda Rothell, also of Stam-
ford, was 1st runner-up.
Melody was sponsored by
Gail’s Hallmark while Brenda
was sponsored by Hassen’s.
Second runner-up was Kimi

Wills of Lueders being chosen
Miss Congeniality. Clothing
awards were presented to
Chantel Middlebrook of Anson
and Miss Wills.

Season tickets for Bulldog
football are now on sale in the

Melody Crenshaw, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Cren-
shaw, was chosen as the 1987 Jones County Fair Queen as
the 29th annual fair started its run last Thursday. Melody was
joined by another local girl, Brenda Rothell, as 1 st runner-up.
Both girls are students at Stamford High School. •

County Fair Queen title
Stamford Police have issued a warning to local citizens
against discharging firearms within the city limits. It is
unlawful to discharge any firearms in the city and the
crime carries a fine of up to $200.
Booster Club to provide concessions
The Athletic Booster Club will sell soft drinks, iced tea,
homemade brownies and cookies at the Ballinger scrim-
mage.
Little League sets family softball night
Stamford Little League is sponsoring a Family Softball
Night Saturday at the Little League field starting at 7 p.m.
Bring your own coolers and NO alcoholic beverages.
Everyone is invited to attend.
Booster Club to meet Tuesday night
The Athletic Booster Club will meet Tuesday, Sept. 1, at
7:30. Coach Thompson will show the Ballinger scrimmage
film. All interested fans are urged to attend.
Memorials still accepted for Pham fund
Memorials are still being accepted for the Dung Pham
fund which has been established at First National Bank.
Donations received will be used to install a water fountain
in the Stamford High School tennis court area in Dung’s
memory. Donations may be made directly to the fund.
Driver’s license office to be closed
There will be no driver’s license service in Jones County
Aug. 24-28.
Stocker cattle meetings sot Monday
The Jones County Agriculture Subcommittee will host
two Stocker Cattle Operators Meetings Monday. The meet-
ings will be at 2 p.m. at the Cliff House Restaurant in Stam-
ford and at the Hodges Community Center at 7 p.m.
Topics to be covered at the meetings include profitabili-
ty of a wheat and grazing operation, forage and grain pro-
duction based on planting and grazing, pull off dates, bloat
control and supplemental feeding on small grain pastures
and market outlooks for wheat pasture cattle.
Central Baptist sots revival services
Central Baptist Church will conduct revival services
from Sunday, Aug. 30, through Wednesday, Sept. 2. Robert
Sutton, pastor of First Baptist Church of Baird, will con-
duct the services. ,
Worship services will begin with Sunday School at 9:45
Sunday, followed by morning worship at 11 a.m. and even-
ing worship at 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday services
will be at 7 p.m.
Chamber breakfast scheduled Sept. 3
The quarterly breakfast of the Stamford Chamber of
Commerce will be Thursday, Sept. 3, at 7 a.m. at the Cliff
House Restaurant. The breakfast is being sponsored by
Osbornes and Stamford Paint and Body. Everyone is in-
vited to attend.
