'tt’s a story we all know and love—the first
II Pilgrim Thanksgiving. The excite-
ment in their little homes must have been
pretty much as it is today—the tantalizing
smells of roast turkey and pumpkin pie—
the bustle and rush of eager children—it
must have been a wonderful day!
But before the Pilgrims sat down to their
feast they observed the true meaning of
Thanksgiving. They all gathered together
in their meetinghouse to give thanks for
the good they had received, for survival
through a long year of hardship, and to
Thanksgiving Day will be a happier.

pray fo’r the strength and courage to keep
their faith in this strange, new land.
This Thanksgiving, why not take your
family to your house of worship. A quiet
hour of prayer and thanks will make your
holiday so much more meaningful.
Wherever you are ... whatever your be-
liefs may be ... take time to offer your
words of thanks ... just as the Pilgrims did
more than 300 years ago.

Be sure to have plenty of fresh Florida grapefruit on hand for
Thanksgiving Day. The tart juicy sections and halves are ideal
appetizers to precede an otherwise heavy meal.
In addition, plump round sunshiny grapefruit cen be made into
turkey gobblers for centerpieces or individual places that will
delight young and old. Here’s how:
Grapefruit Turkeys
Cut four rows of deep slits for fanned-out tail. Insert rhododen-
dron leaves for tail feathers, placing smallest leaves in front, longest
in back, and trim tips with scissors. Make two deep slits on sides
for wings; insert two small leaves in each. Make head of shelled
Brazil nuts with pin inserted in bottom to hold in place. Use
pimiento for wattle. Cut scallops with tip of apple corer bending
them outward, to represent breast feathers. Insert three toothpicks
in grapefruit for legs.
