years, the Blue Dev-

38-30 game to Miller
Grove in the finals
of the tournament.

High School Classes
of 1927, 1928 and
1929.

reunion from 10 a.m.
to 3 p.m. at the Ra-

lle.

J. Howard Nix, 76,
of 4310 Templeton
St., Greenville, di-
ed November 20, 1978
at 1:20 a.m. in a
Greenville hospital.
Funeral services
were at 2 p.m. Tues-
day at Coker-Mathe-
- ws-Peters Chapel wi-
th Leamon Keele and
Foster Ramsey offic-
iating. Burial was
in Memoryland Memor-
ial Park.
Pallbearers were

Owens, Hal Luna, He-
rman Biffle, Solon
MiIton and Johnny
Erwin.
Nix was born Oct.
4, 1902 in Hunt Cou-
nty, the son of J.
Ed and Mintie Rambo
Nix. He married Una
Kay Mitchell at Cel-
este on Jan. 29,
1919. Nix was a bar-
ber and a member of
the Celeste Church
of Christ. He had
lived in Greenville
since 1967.
Survivors include
two sons, J. H. Nix
Jr. of Greenville
and Hoyt Nix of Lub-
bock; a daughter,
Mrs. Leta Kay Glass-
cock of Greenville;
three brothers, Nor-
ris Nix of Campbell,
Elvin Nix of Sweetw-
ater and Horace Nix
of Houston; a sist-
er, Mrs. Clotell Do-
yle of Dallas; six
grandchildren and
five great grandchi-
ldren.
He was preceded in
death by his wife in
1967.

Members of the Ce-
leste Volunteer Fire
Department have und-
ergone fire fighting
training at the Ric-
hardson-Plano train-
ing center. Facilit-
ies include actual
fighting of house
fires, propane gas
fires, oil pit fir-
es, airplane fires
and repelling off a
4-story training to-
wer.
Choice Atkins, a
member of the Plano
Fire Department and
a Celeste volunteer,
was granted permiss-
ion from Chief Rush
of Plano and Chief
Jackie Mayfield of
Richardson to use
the facilities to
train Celeste firem-
en.
The men will rece-
ive diplomas from
the Fire Protection
Training Division of
Texas A & M.

mmunity Thanksgiving
Service Sunday night
was well attended.

ckham as guitar acc-
ompanist, and a Lio-
ns choir provided
the music. Ken Cole,
Baptist pastor, bro-
ught the message.
Methodist pastor Fr-
ancis Sale, Hubert
Shields, Mack Piers-
on and club preside-
nt Curley Wallace
were others partici-
pating. Ushers were
John Williams, Ralph
Gibson, Robert Holl-
oway and Rex Denny.
THE LIONS CLUB has
a fund raising proj-
ect going, the sale
of freshly roasted
peanuts. They come
in three and five
pound plastic bucke-
ts , and ARE they yu-
mmy! One has to keep
them hidden.
Mack Pierson is
chief peddler it se-
ems, but any club
member will take an
order and relay it
to Mack. The goal is
2,000 pounds. As of
Saturday, those sev-
eral million goobers
(all peeled, salted
and sealed) totaling
a ton, will have be-
en ordered by Decem-
ber 5th, the date of
the last order. The
price is $3.25 for 3
pounds. The Spanish
type is slightly hi-
gher. A 5 lb. bucket
is $4.95. Peanut br-
ittle is $2.25 per
pound. The Lions Cl-
ub will have a nice
working balance to
do good deeds with
their commission.
THE FIRE DEPARTME-
NT has gone a step
further in citizen

spokesman John Mize
said. These stickers

WORD HAS COME of
the death of Don Po-
llard, a Celeste gr-
aduate of 1949. The
Pollards lived on
the corner where
Mrs. Myers now has a
home. Friends report
that Don died sudde-
nly at his home in
Dallas. He was plan-
ning a trip to Ohio
the next day. Only
48. A nice quiet man
as he was a boy here
in the class with
Jimmy McMichael.
MR. AND MRS. TILL-
ERSON were in Bayto-
wn and Houston part
of last week at the
bedside of a relati-
ve, the husband of
Mr. T's sister. He
was slightly improv-
ed late Sunday foll-
owing extensive sur-
gery.

ving dinner was held
at the Town & Count-
ry Cafeteria with
Mrs. Mack Pierson,
Mrs. Johnnie Staple-
ton and Mrs. Lois
Lewis as hostesses.
About 35 persons at-
tended.
The T-shaped table
setting was covered
with white cloths.
The head table held
an arrangement of
fall flowers flanked
by gold candles. Ot-
her decorations were
arrangements of fru-
it and fall flowers.
Mrs. Lonnie Lint-
on, president, gave
the welcome address.
Albert Cranberry vo-
iced the invocation
before a dinner of
turkey and dressing
and all the trimmin-
gs was served.
Rev. Francis Sale,
pastor of the First
United Methodist Ch-
urch, presented the
program using "Lest
We Forget" as his
topic. He was intro-
duced by Mrs. Albert
Cranberry, program
chairman.
Rev. Ken Cole, Ba-
ptist pastor, gave
the benediction.

sit last week with
Nancy Weatherley
(Mrs. Mike). She and
son Chris were here
to visit family. Po-
or Chris was suffer-
ing from chicken pox
and he really had
quite a case. Hope
you are feeling bet-
ter Chris.
The Barney Rubarts
and the Teddy Coles
have returned after
vacationing in Okla-
homa and Arkansas.
Their first stop
was Lakewood Ranche-
tte, then on to McA-
lester to spend the
night. Enroute to
McAlester, they came
upon a murder/suici-
de in Wilburton.
The group went to
Red Oak and attended
the Rock Creek Bapt-
ist Church with the
Indian families. Th-
is is the summer mi-
ssion program of the
First Baptist Chur-
ch.
They traveled to
Ft. Smith, Arkansas ?•
and attended church
at LeVaca Baptist
Church which is pas-
tored by Rev. Curtis
Smithson, a former
Celeste pastor. Aft-
er services, they
lunched with the Sm-
ithsons at Sambos.
The next stop was
Eureka Springs for
sightseeing. They
went to Beaver Lake,
then to Rogers and
Mena, and across the
skyline drive before
returning home. They
reported an enjoyab-
le trip.
