“Judge, would you mind telltn' Charlie here
what you told me the other night walkin'
home from lodge. 1 can’t word it just the
way you did.”
“Sure thing, Tim. Here's what 1 told him.
Charlie. There’s no such thing as votin' a
nation, a state, a county, or even a com-
munity dry. We had proof enough of that
during our 13 years of prohibition. What
you really vote for is whether liquor is going
to be sold legally or illegally...whether the
community is going to get needed taxes for
schools, hospitals, and the like, or whether
this money is going to go to gangsters and
bootleggers. That’s the answer, boys . . .
simple as A-B-C.”

From where I sit, this new
style in eating may lead to mod-
eration, and moderation has
never hurt anybody.
In fact, you find moderation
and tolerance go hand in hand
... whether it’s what you eat or
what you think.... Or whether
one man prefers a moderate

would rather have a soda.

Dan Miles allows he’s swim-
ming right in style these days.
Dan’s always made a point of
finishing up whatever food was
put before him. “Don’t make
sense to waste food jest to be
stylish,” he says.
Now out comes an etiquette
authority who says it’s wartime
fashion to take only what you’re
going to eat—and finish it up
clean—because “Food Fights for
Freedom.”
As Doc Mitchell says, “Most
folks eat too much anyway. Man

TEXAS I
Some day the last train to war will roll on the tracks
America’s railroads! And then the vast resources of
America’s nation -wide railroad network will be recon-
verted to greater peacetime services to you.
AMERICAN RAILROADS ARE IN THERE PITCH-
ING—IT’S AN "ALL-OUT” JOB FOR VICTORY.
We are proud of the part we are playing in helping to
keep America the greatest liberty-loving nation on earth.
Yow County War Fund is another "Victory weapon."
The United War Chest of Texas through war fund
organizations in every county of the state is charged with
the responsibility of raising $4,885,781.00 for the 17
approved war appeals of the National War Fund. The
national goal is $125,000,000.
Each of the 17 participating agencies
We’re partners in this job—
We are tackling it together—as we have worked together
in the past. We are proud to be your partner^-to da
whatever is needed to win.
Texans now are being asked to take a Texan’s share
f in their County War Funds to aid three fronts with one
gift—the Military Front, the United Nations Front, and
the Home Front. Remember, President Roosevelt has
said that a share in the National War Fund is a share in
winning the war. Use this “Victory weapon.” Give to your
M County War Fund.
