As a result of the complaint that
short-weight butter had been sold
in Denton Food Commissioner Ab-
bott Thursday afternoon visited a
number of grocery stores and weigh
ed some of the prints of butter on
hand. One of the complainants
stated that he had weighed a print
he bought for a pound and that it
weighed an even twelve ounces.
The pure food law covers this point
It is said, and requires that butter
sold as a pound must weigh sixteen
ounces or the manufacturer and sen
er of it are liable to the law’s nan*
alte
Whether or not Dr. Abbott found
any short-weight prints is not
known. In one store, however, he
weighed seven pounds taken at ran-
dom from the atock on band, which
ranged in weight from 15 to 17
ounces, only two being even slightly
underweight.

When sickness comes and the
doctor has prescribed the medi-
cines which the case requires fair
ness to both patient and doctor
suggests the need of having that
prescription filled at a first class
drug store. You can’t afford to do
anything else. Last year there
were filled at my store a little
more than 10,000 prescriptions,
coming not only from Denton and
many Denton county doctors
but also many brought in by our
school folks from doctors all over
the state. To properly care for a
prescription business of this vol-
ume requires a large investment
in equipment. The small store
is not justified in doing it. A
business of this size calls for an
investment in drugs and chemi-
cals for which the little store may
never have a need and if they do
they haven't got the goods. I’ve
given this business 20 years of
practical study. I am a graduate
of St. Louis College of Pharmacy
and registered by examination in
Texas, Missouri and Illinois. If
you hesitate about this matter ask
your doctor; he knows. Free de-
