Mrs. M. A. Brandon, wife of the
late J. B. Brandon, and for manv
years a resident, of Denton county,
of which she was a pioneer settler,
died at her home on Bolivar street
at 4:20 Monday afternoon. Cancer
I of the face, with which she had suf-
fered for a long time, was the im-
mediate cause of death, although it
was aided by her extreme old age
She was 81 years, 7 months an(j 8
days old.
Mrs. Brandon wag born in Dyer
county, Tenn on Dec. 24, 1829.
In 1847 she was married to Mr.
Brandon. In 1854, with her hus-
band, she moved to Texas, settling
in Wise county, where they lived
for the next six or seven years. They
then moved to Denton county, re-
siding north of town on the Bran
don farm until 188i, when they re-
moved to Denton. Her hupband
dii'd in 1882. Practically all, if not
all of her Denton residence, had
been at the family home, No. 126
Bolivar street, where she died.
For the past several years her
niece, Mrs. M. E. Zeigler, has made
her home at the Brandon place an i
had cared for Mrs. Brandon during
her lon^ Illness.
Mrs. Brandon was the oldest
member of the Baptist church. It is
said in Denton, she having joined
that denoniina on early in her
married- life. Up trt her final illness
